Nickname I think its interesting from a janny PoV, which is probably why I didn't remove it and I think we're all mature enough to be able to talk about moderation changes on other sites and their implications.
Chans I think are nice in their own way because they can be quite fast based and allow for shitposting. Although their issue I think that they've found is that about 95% of the site devolves into that always.
Word filters have been in use for a long time on certain boards, replacing soy with onions, and so on.
Limiting a post to fewer instances of a word is good for spam definitely. I think its interesting that they've opted to limit the usage per post as opposed to preventing any usage of them. Tells me that they're not doing something like trying to develop an official app for app stores, or other such ventures.
i'd be curious to know if Hiroyuki and the team are planning to tidy the site up going into this next year for them. 21 Years is a long time for a site to be around so I imagine theyre trying some new bits.
Using the words Nigger, Faggot or Tranny are not banned on here, although i'd just delete posts spamming them and I'd much prefer as close to zero use where possible. It's just unnecessarily vulgar for people, especially on here where i'd like to think we have a good atmosphere.
I have thought about whether the site should allow them and how that would affect an official app store listing but for now we're good.
As for this threads place on the site, maybe if people wanted to talk about other sites, their moderation strategies and such then an external meta tag (some name like that) would be ideal.
Although I wouldn't want the site to become "talk about other sites drama"- the website. For now we'll see how it goes ofc and change things as required.
magicrabbit Yeah I think the filters were amusing and created some fun interactions when they first happened. The filter from tbh to desu was my favourite since i started thinking people were just typing it instead outright.
