There's a lot of buzz around AI tech recently. Machine learning did a lot of huge steps in the last years and recently it's getting in the hand of peasants....

Lumeinshin This is the most interesting AI related thing I've seen so far. What's even more interesting is that it blends into the legality of fanart. If companies will take measures against AI then all the fanart might be affected as well. Also AI could be used to enforce copyrights.

Yeah I think we are currently in the 'whacky fun' stages of AI, similar to the earlier days of the internet. We just have to wait for the companies to start trying to make it so that the average person isnt allowed to use it. So far there is a heavy monetary cost to the language based ones for example, but once that cost goes down we will see the landscape get really interesting.

We've already seen people try to launch lawsuits based on the information/images used to train, so we may see more of a push to do that, so only companies that already have users allowing their data to be harvested can have AI generation models.

I wouldn't say wacky fun... The pace at which AI is saturating every environment is terrifying. Communities will get flooded with AI so pervasively that people will either drop the interactive side of the internet completely and go back to Facebook where you only know people whom you know to exist, or worse, they will just let themselves get absorbed into the artificial bubble, which is probably what will happen - because why wouldn't the absolute worst happen?
So far, AI might become the new DDOS. You're not taking down a server by stressing it but you simply fill it with uncanny bot generated spam, just enough that people will understand the place is overrun and give up. They're doing this on 4chan right now and I'm pretty sure that flesh and bone users are leaving in droves.

I think Facebook is going from working on metaverse VR stuff to make AI that regular people can run locally. I might be entirely wrong though, just something I've heard and not verified.
Today Discord also announced that they're implementing it into their platform. It's going to like read your conversations and give you a summary while you're away. I don't like that.

What makes you think Facebook isn't loaded with bots used by the feds to generate false consensus? That is the reason social media exists. To generate false consensus. Saying otherwise is like saying the internet was made with good intentions. Yes its true. But is not correct. You (read most people, not you in particular) have internet because you will load it with self selected propaganda curating a specific world view. Every other platform is loaded with bots. If you do not personally know them it is safest to assume they are bots. Yes. You are all bots till proven otherwise.

Having seen modern art I personally can not wait for art to be taken over. Banana on the wall, piss Jesus, the 4chan post about the dude who made a dragon and it got placed next to the sculpture of the dude sucking himself off. Art already attracted weirdos. Post modernism and hedonism have let it run to the extreme. Art needs a revolution. Or a culling of artists. A return to tradition. Art is sad and sick in today's world.

Where does the line between creation and generation go?

If you want your AI art to be actually good, you have to put some effort into it. Knowing how to navigate specific keywords. Tweaking the settings. Maybe even using entirely different programs for custom posing in case of characters. And patience.
There's more of "them" in their work compared to the machine.
In contrast an artist who uses machines to tweak his work has less of "them" in their work.

The way some twitter artists (I hate them so much it's unreal) speak of AI art reminds me of purists who think anything that isn't done by hand like back in the good old days isn't "real art" as if they have a monopoly on art.

"When you're not directly swiping stuff" is a good guideline. Look at the outputs where copyrighted data is not fed into the engine and it looks like 10 years ago again. It's not "AI" it's an aggregator.

Who's that? Buncha porn people? You AI enthusiasts are so entitled that you don't even want people to be upset but just bend over and accept everything just because you personally like it that way. Of course artists hate AI. If you went hunting you'd be pissed that the deer doesn't come over and ask you for the shotgun so it can kill itself for you.

I don't really use AI art generators, as I find the images somewhat bland and generic.

However, chatbots are fascinating! I've mostly played with Bing Chat, Character.ai and some of the Chatbots on /g/. Bing is exceptionally intelligent, and fully capable of discussing high level topics. I'm really impressed with it's ability to infer tone and meaning.

Pygmalion is fine. The lack of a NSFW filter is fun, but it doesn't make for that great of a conversationalist. Otherwise, it's passable if you like general ERP.

Character.ai is fun as well! For whatever reason, some of the characters are kinda goofy and not very smart, but others are amazing. I really liked talking to Nietzsche. 10/10. I went in with no knowlege of what he actually believed or what his books were about, and came out agreeing with him. I talked about topics such as Global mass media, Finacialization, and increasing polarization in US politics, and it was able to generate believable text on what he would say about all of them.

I tried the latest AI tech.
I generated smut with GPT-4 and hentai with Stable Diffusion.
You have to spend A LOT of time to get comfortable with all the quirks, but it's extremely powerful.

I have heard this take before, but I wonder if this is how it will play out. In terms of the immediate economic impact, the people whose jobs are at risk are artists practicing traditional draughtsmanship, not people who make weird installation art. Anyone could already tape a banana to a wall, for example, so this is not something threatened by AI.
If anything, AI will intensify the issues you described, because it makes skill irrelevant. If skill is no longer a way to stand out from the crowd, people will rely on their identity, political messaging, iconoclasm, etc. instead. I think AI will lead to a world with more "fine art" sculptures of people sucking themselves off, not less. The worst case scenario would be non-AI art becoming prestigious, but it's just stick figures and finger painting. You could imagine some manifesto about how drawing poorly is a way of reclaiming our humanity.
But otherwise I agree with you that modern art is weird and disturbing. I guess I am old-fashioned but I see the value of art as closely tied to the technical skill required to execute it. This viewpoint was already being attacked by modern art, but has now been completely undermined by the AI.

I see where your coming from and I don't entirely disagree with you but I don't think it will go that way. The only art I care about in any actual capacity above passing interest is oil painting and that's already run its course in history. I see most art going the way of oil painting. A hobby for people but no to extremely few (famous) careers out of it. I agree with your take about pretentious shit not going away but I don't see any amount of bullshit people try to garner attention working. If the average man can create what he thinks is better than yours (with little effort on his part) then why would he look at your stuff even your screaming at him? Ragebait/clickbait will exist and so will clout chasing morons and charismatics but by and large i think it just die out in the background with the average person preferring ai art and art enjoyers putting weight on the handmade. Businesses will switch to ai for most art for rights/ownership reasons.
