Sorry for not being active a lot lol I appreciate the effort you spent on this forum and it has been a really comfy place. I haven't seen too many forums as peaceful and virtuous as this for quite some time. Maybe it's just because I haven't lurked too much recently.

gingermilk Considering I spent two years off and on on /ddlc/ on /vg/.... I truly know how blessed I am that this place has had zero hell days so far.

I had grown so used to having to avoid a place where I had friends .....for like 6 hours a day.... because it was completely on fire.

I can think of so many other places that are so... bitter or heated compared to here too.

Thanks for considering adding a chat feature. I know next to nothing about running a website like this, so if it's difficult to implement, please don't hassle yourself over it unless if you feel it's worth it. I should add that I agree that what I like about this site is that it's a breakaway from the mainstream net, so resorting to Discord does seem like a huge compromise. When I suggested the idea, I was thinking along the lines of the chat they have at Agoraroad (link). Or even like the shoutbox feature they have at the top of this site: (link)

MO I agree. Everywhere seems to be toxic these days and most of the better ones are too niche to be found. I wouldn't even be here if I didn't know the owner of the site from elsewhere already.

I'd like to as well, I think that for now i'll keep it so we cant though. This is due to the increased server costs that video posting would incur. i'd probably want to double the server costs before I could comfortably allow video hosting without degrading performance overall.

gingermilk I think these days its just so incredibly hard to get any reach. i've probably spent too much money just getting the site out there relative to site growth.
On site ads are done in a pretty immoral way imo so options are limited. Search engine ads are a bit better but not by a lot. So Self-Serve Ads are really the only viable option (and i prefer them) but they are few and far between.
There is definitely room for a business there... 🤔

gingermilk It's mostly down to the fact that people don't know each other, you got bored trolls with no life, you got politics being politics, and you have platforms designed to make people fight.

Life is messy. Talking only to people you agree with is bad, but talking only to people you disagree with is bad. And often most ratios of one to the other are bad too.

MO I used to browse /r9k/ a lot in my adolescent years, safe to say it didnt do me any favors. It might be (one of) the worst board(s) on 4chan currently. The only fun anon I remember from there was someone who used to post daily Rei Running Gif threads. I miss him.

gingermilk Nothing necessarily wrong with sites/communities being niche. Yeah, it makes them harder to find, but the tradeoff is worth it in my opinion, since it usually contributes to a better userbase.

I just wanna add some feedback and is that this forum has the potential to become cozy with a tight knit community where everyon knows each other, it would be good to preserve that, also i think i never got to experience that from the old internet

What friffri said, Thank you for your hard work. It's nice not having to be passive aggressive or call everyone a faggot by default (although I've doing that for so long it's hard not to).

There arent really any ways to advertise aside from word of mouth, I have some ideas of more crafty ways to advertise but i'll keep my cards close until I do anything.
As for Webrings, I think the term is pretty much exclusive to imageboards, since the goal is anonymous posting, whereas forums are user based. However I am more than happy to have a 'friends of sheepishpatio' list with other sites. to an extent the 'niche communities/sites' thread somewhat is a move towards that, however I havent had any connection directly to any admins of sites that exist there.

There are some moral considerations there if I were to extend my "credibility" to include a separate site. Although I dont hold that in tooooo much regard. Definitely something I have to consider though

It started as a special place where only new, and distinct messages could be posted, I believe.

This anon was called "Teach Anon", he was an English teacher. I miss him, espially since now I'm a student teacher myself.

Yeah the way the header works it doesn't accept JavaScript so I just change it manually. Otherwise I'd have like 100. I'll have to look into redoing it some time
