yukarihinata Awwe, man. Really sorry to hear that, I know all about that personally. Couple years ago I was working on an album, about 6-7 months into it the HDD just suddenly ate shit and I was just devastated, so much hard work just gone.

I just started over as I could but eventually found a relatively/comparatively cheap option for data recovery (around 600USD at that time I kid you not) and got my files back and was able to finish it as best as I could.

This is that album:
pretty happy with it, and I don't think I would've been without having taken that shot at recovering my files.

Red Sweet! Will give it a listen later. I do have a few tracks that I had project files for. Just spent some time rendering the tracks in .Wav to upload to bandcamp!

I will listen to your album and edit this post with some unsolicited feedback (I am easy to please when it comes to music, I like most genres and can appreciate even the most advant garde music).

I really like the post-rock vibes. This is the exact kind of stuff I loved to listen to on bandcamp when I was college.

Also, I've been doing this thing where I make and post a new song every week on my YouTube channel, this was last week's effort

They tend to be hit or miss (more miss) since I don't get much time to work on them but it's a fun project just to keep me on my toes.

yukarihinata don’t know if this applies to you, but does it sound like an at least feasible start if I mess around on keyboards and then write down the phrases that sound good? I remember full note, half note, and the others — but I’ve forgotten what little I knew of step correlation.

Trondei I would say that you are exactly on the right track. Mess around with a keyboard and write down phrases as you can. If dictation is hard at first record the ideas with your phone and then take time dictating the idea and playing it over again. I do the same thing. I hope to one day afford a decent midi controller so I can skip that step, but then again playing it and then dictating is how it has been done for most of history.

I mentioned it above but I did a similar thing last year where I did a song every day for 100 days, and it was absolutely exhausting. I've switched to doing one every week as well and I generally prefer it. Still keeps you working/learning but not as horribly grindy as every day. Plus the extra time to refine tracks is really nice, and I get to actually put effort into the artwork.

I think forcing yourself to put stuff out consistently is a very important skill as an artist that more people should focus on, it really forces you to hone your craft.

Oh, and I really enjoy your music, especially the album you posted. Keep it up!

Woland this was pretty much how both of my albums on my bandcamp were made. Once a week I would spend 3-4 hours working on a song. My rule was not to spend more than one day working on any one song. However, for a few songs I broke that rule.

Typically, I am too busy with my normie job, so I can only really spend so much time on any one song. That is why I prioritize a ABA song structure that is very simple. Spending so little time in one song does force you to get better at your own song writing abilities.

Right now I am working on writing a book, or else I would be working on my next batch of songs. The last song I made was at the beginning of December for a friend. The rule was the same, no longer than 3-4 hours for a song.

I told my friend to UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES to listen to the first Korn album, and they did.

They're face was like they had died, came back, died again, came back, and now were just sitting there... not sure what to do with themselves.

I'm glad that the rest of you like bands that don't do this to people.

Can't say skeleton butlers and werewolf maids are what I think of when I listen to the first one, but it's unexpectedly good; I can say in earnest this track is one I would appreciate casually or as BGM for some action game. Will be listening to the others as well

bathed in sky is good too, I'd play in stepmania or something
can't give up on this one AND funk for the end of daze both sound like they belong in modern day set rpg games, i like them

I'm 3 months late, but I really enjoyed skeleton butlers and werewolf maids! It's got that sort of feel that makes me want to just close my eyes and LARP as a conductor. Very fine work!

bathed in sky makes me think of "reminiscing" somehow, maybe something about recapturing a moment in time or chasing something, with a dash of childhood innocence.

the persistence of catastrophic ideation makes me think of exploring a dungeon/labyrinth, slowly peeling back inches of darkness and trying not to get lost, every move casting echoes all around and reinforcing how small you are within the maze.

Your music is pretty evocative, I like what I'm hearing.
