Fimm Ryu Knight looks fantastic. I love Mecha with an offbeat look. And the medieval look is always cool when combined with giant robots. Just from that pic, it looks like Five Star Stories for kids. Which, god damn, where the hell was that when I was growing up!?

I recently read Hideyuki Kikuchi's Demon City Shinjuku and Demon Palace Babylon. Awful stuff, which I so wanted to enjoy because I like the Kawajiri film adaption of Demon City Shinjuku. I've read translations of Mishima and Murakami which have been fantastic, and so it cannot be the fault of the translator. The dialogue is stilted, the stories move at an awkward, inconsistent pace, and the world building is goofily overblown. I know these are the equivalent of pulp novels, but Conan the Barbarian short stories and noir novellas are so much better than this.

I have actually been reading a manga for the first time in a while.
It is another isekai, but I've enjoyed the protagonists jibes about VN tropes, although I didnt really play otome games much.

Otomege Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai desu

Leon, a former Japanese worker, was reincarnated into an “otome game” world, and despaired at how it was a world where females hold dominance over males. It was as if men were just livestock that served as stepping stones for females in this world. The only exceptions were the game’s romantic targets, a group of handsome men led by the crown prince. In these bizarre circumstances, Leon held one weapon: his knowledge from his previous world, where his brazen sister had forced him to complete this game. This is a story about his adventure to survive and thrive in this world.

I hope to read some more and maybe rewatch some anime sometime soon, maybe its time for another deathnote rewatch 👀

Right now, I'm mostly watching Frieren, 16bit Sensation and Idolm@ster Million live as it is broadcasted. When I feel like it, I watch an episode of og Macross and Love Live Superstar season 2...

But really I'm mostly watching the Monogatari Series at the moment and as I'm writing this post, I'm 4 episodes deep in Zoku Owarimonogatari so it's only 2 episodes until I've seen all that has been animated. I have starting downloading ACCA 13 to watch with a friend and I might give Katanagari a try. Or watch all of Symphogear lol

Is it just me or has your anime consumption slowed down over the years? I remember it being a medium that I would really enjoy, always be excited to start the next new anime, all the inside jokes and obscure manga or anime you could find. It doesn't really hit the same, there's still lots of great anime out there but I feel that the new anime, especially for example Netflix original ones are so boring with a hint of soullessness.

If you enjoy isekais and by a coincident steins;gate, check out re: zero (the anime/LN, as the manga has not caught up iirc), you'll enjoy it a lot.

Re:Zero was quite good from what I remember, at least season 1 was REALLY good when I was watching it. Its maybe the last anime I watched weekly as stuff came out.
I do need to give it a rewatch tho to see if I still feel that way

light I can relate. Watching anime and reading manga used to be my daily entertainment but now it feels more like a chore I need to do just to cross things out from my to-read/watch list.

light I used to think this way... very recently in fact. During 2020 - 2022 I stopped watching anime almost completely after a gradual decrease from previous years. Only really rewatching shows like Code Geass, Steins;Gate, the Monogatari Series, because I knew I liked them and wanted to be reminded of the story. If I picked a new show I'd often drop it halfway through because I didn't care to watch the rest, among other things.
Around December of 2022 and Early 2023, I randomly decided I should watch more anime, and started picking up shows for very trivial reasons. Cute girl appears? Picked up. Saw a cool 5 second clip of it on 4chan? Picked up. Read a really good doujin of it? Picked up. The discussion for an airing anime seems fun? Picked the fuck up.
Eventually I realized all of my expectations for all of these I picked up were always negative, but watching even just one episode would surprise me, because they were genuinely good and I was actually having fun with them.
So I'm certain it's a mental thing, maybe a phase in our being that makes our mindset not be in the right place for it. But if you can go back and remember what it was that made anime worthwhile to you in the first place, then you can start enjoying it again.

Lumeinshin I've been reading the light novel and it's been an experience incomparably better than the anime. I highly recommend it.

Right, exactly! I really miss that feeling, at one point even had those anime aggregation sites like AniList/MAL, not anymore though. Thankfully that passion has reignited in the form of other hobbies of mine, so I can't really complain haha.

You will love Steins;Gate then! I've always seen Steins;Gate as the sci-fi and better version of Re: Zero. It's also made by the same studio which will also make drawing parallels between those two entertaining too.

magicrabbit Could very well be the case. For me, it's also about this looming pressure of "productivity," I'd like to think of myself as an industrious person hence it becomes increasingly difficult to justify leisure/recreation that does not "contribute" to my development.

just like others mentioned, I have pretty much stopped consuming anime and mangas.
Hell last time I watched an anime was edgerunners 1st episode and before that its been few years since i watched/read anything.
Rn the only content I consume basically consists of youtube recommending like a clip from dbz or smth.

Watched The Cat Returns today and now I'm almost depressed. I get this feeling of a profound, genuine sadness pretty much every time I touch something genuinely good and kind. Without a doubt because of the stark contrast with my reality...
Maybe I just shouldn't have positive things and stick to racing and, I don't know, DOOM or whatever. Really, The Cat Returns made me wanna drink. And I do just that. So... I guess it was good. Do recommend, or something...

Been trying to continue the Overlord LNs, but tbh I don't really feel like the story has gone anywhere interesting. I have been watching Delicious in Dungeon and am enjoying it, but other than that I have not had as much tjmw foe anime these days.

too much shit to sift through, but i do enjoy the rare good series that comes by every year or so.

I recently rewatched KonoSuba and caught up with the movie and third season. I've very much enjoyed it and come to like all of the characters.
I do wonder where its going though (yes I know there is the light novels, maybe i'll read them in future)
My favourite characters are probably Aqua and Darkness.. and maybe Vanir 😆

I loved Chio's school road. The beach chapter iirc is where Chio and Ando's relationship really kicks off ,which I like. There's not much left so you might as well finish it.

Saw Kowarekake no Orgel, a one-episode OVA about someone who finds an obsolete model cyborg. It's got a nice sense of transience over a summer break, and I certainly liked the way it's able to quickly produce a detailed domestic portrait in the way it does. On account of its length it does feel perhaps limited, if this were a full movie or 12-episode series, then there's a lot of different angles that it could have emphasised in more detail, but it's got a lot of personality and I liked what I got.
