Kyon Being a black hole of resources for so long feels wrong to the average person unless I'm just speaking for myself again
I wouldn't mind being a black hole for resources, but somehow no one is inclined to give me any.
Either way, I'm not sure if you are speaking for yourself or not, but you are definitely painting too broadly by assuming that everyone here is otaku.
It is also kinda ironic that despite all the otaku stuff, you do not mention the japanese concept of whatever the fuck it is called, which actually means an idela job, something that translates akin to a "life's calling" or something. Whatever. You have blindly named pretty much all parts of it though.
Thing is, "life's calling" is work that you like to do, that provides you with meanings to live - either money or any other kind of sustenance - and that also is useful to the others. Something along those lines, I'm pretty sure you can search for it from here.
Aero Give back to your fellow people through work.
Fellow people can ligma.
Society ain't done much good for me, I do not have any duty to it.
Also, being a NEET doesn't mean that you do not work. Employment and work are not equal. I'm not employed, yet I still earn my living.
Plus I've been doing what I like for years, and everything I've ever done is available to everyone for free. It was my concious choice not to paywall anything. Which, I hope, shows that the whole topic is intricate. At least in my eyes.
It's a pity if most NEETs are just useless black holes for resources, but even that is better than being a cog in the system. Much like it has been said in The Matrix: these people are part of the system, and as long as they are part of the system - they are the enemy.
Frankly, I do hope that me staying as far away as possible from conventional economy makes at least a miniscule dent in the machine. Makes me sleep better at night.
Volunteering is a completely different topic though, for obvious reasons. And I do not think it also counts as employment anyhow. You can be NEET and a volunteer easily, but correct me if I hit a lannguage barrier.
