It does for sure feel like a symbolic death for 4chan.
The site hasn't felt the same for me either, and admittedly, I found it to be quite repetitive, though this might vary from board-to-board dynamics.
On /r9k/ for instance, it was just the same whining and insipid and needless pornography, not a fan at all.
From a technical standpoint, it's marvelous how it hadn't been hacked sooner, PHPMyAdmin as the DB interface and the it being operated and written entirely in PHP? Yeah, this was bound to happen in my opinion. Inevitable.
