I may be in the minority, but I actually don't mind the 15 minute timer. yeah it gets annoying, however that did stop alot of the low quality spamming on certain boards. it didnt get rid of ALL problems though, but I guess I can understand why they did that.

the email thing is not my cup of tea though!

Can't say I'm surprised to hear it was full of fedposting and that it was an actual honeypot.
I don't know what the prospects moving forward are, I can't help but feel that the damage to their reputation from the leaks will do more than any temporary shutdown ever could.
I like that place, I like the straight talk the people give there. Not too many places like it left.

Those rumors of .gov and .edu email addresses for mods and staff seem to be exaggerated. There were a few .edu addresses, but from what I can gather it was only a small handful.
This has been going around though and should provide more info. ...Maybe.

I still don't actually know how much of this is true, it's not like I've seen this post myself or even have enough background information to verify the authenticity of the trip;
but we are living "post-truth" anyways and who cares to begin with.

There are multiple of the IP posts floating around.
The Israel top one I have seen listed as "outdated" and another with them being around the 20th highest.
I don't know which is the real one and which isn't. Right now I'm taking both as fake. The hacker guy the did the PDF stuff mentioned nothing about it and I haven't personally gone through the leak and probably won't to verify anything.
Someone with more motivation will and will provide proof other than a simple screen grab.

It seems as every year goes by the site degrades in quality and fluctuates throughout its post cycles, especially now considering the amount of shitposters/bots. as someone whos been lurking the site for more than a decade its always been the same as in its both a shitty place and also one of the funniest/interesting places on the internet to read stuff. /sp/ always gets a laugh outta me.

I wasted too much of my life there, and /v/ was almost irredeemably bad, but I was enjoying the Linux Gaming General threads on /vg/ and I have no replacement for those. For that reason alone, I hope the doomsayers are wrong.

The site will probably come back by virtue that it's profitable for Hiro to run. I'd say I miss it but the truth is I haven't seen creative posting there in some years, the last time I truly enjoyed a board was /biz/ back in the 2017-2021 era when it was affecting internet culture with new memetic contributions.
