Where do you guys get your news?

Word of mouth or what? I'm out of touch with so many things and I feel pretty ignorant. And obviously it's become a requirement to investigate news for yourself or else you're x2 dumb. Anyone feel the same? Does it bother you? I live in the middle-east and it's pretty crazy how far and exaggerated some rumors travel especially among peasants, and how opinionated and hellbent they are.

Personally I try to avoid taking any one person/company/outlet at their word, even if I think they've had a good track record. Maybe I might be inclined to agree or listen on certain topics they've had a good track record of but that's about it.
When it comes to hot issues, domestic or abroad I do try to look at least at the 'right' and 'left' most versions of the story to at least get an idea what everyone is upset about. That is if I look at all.. There's so much going on and its everyone's own most important issue of the moment so often its not worth being involved in many discussions with coworkers or the like beside the odd 'oh I hadn't heard about that'.

I've seen a lot of ads for companies that congregate news articles/stories into pages showing where each media outlet leans and key points although I haven't tried one myself.
I used to try to stick generally to a 'pay attention to where humanitarian aid is needed', ie natural disasters and such and donate/talk to others about it type thing but a lot of those in the past have ended with someone pocketing money or further abuse so its just not always the best way to look/think.

Casually I see a lot of headlines and discussion on them on sites like twitter or youtube and whether I look further/take an interest to read CNN/FOX or regional equivalents is dependant on how much time i've got spare. Life is often busy enough where I can give something a skim and that's it.
Most people I know will just give you the current acceptable opinion, repeating the last thing they heard on TikTok or the like. It is tiring.

Unironically, Kiwifarms. The community driven happenings page is mostly about people or things I don't care about, but major news tends to show up there. There's also the Articles and News section, but that's mostly trash.
This also sounds equally retarded, but there's two guys on iFunny called ActualNewsNetwork and ThisIsTheFuckingNews that post screencaps of news articles. They're strangely crazy fast about posting news. I guess they must be plugged into a lot of major news outlets' apps or something. I heard about Assad leaving Syria or the martial law declaration way before anybody else from those guys, definitely before TV news got around to it.
I basically view these as a form of word of mouth. At least I know there's a real person reading the news articles and sharing them if they think it's important or interesting, which I kind of consider to be a filter for SEO and automatically generated garbage that tends to float to the top of news sites and search results. There's also usually a healthy discussion in comments or replies in threads. Most of the comments are useless, but if there's conflicting information or criticism or alternative views of a news story it tends to get brought up as well.
I also listen to radio news from time to time in the car, usually the BBC Worldservice, but sometimes FOX or CNN.
I think what you said about peasants believing obviously fake rumors with conviction is fairly common, even in the "educated" West. I don't know if it's just a lower strata thing, but it certainly seems that most people are idiots. Not that I pretend to have a mind of greatness, but I do try to be cognizant about the world, like obviously crazy theories people spin up about news stories and think about why it might or might not make sense.

Completely word of mouth, I fundamentally do not trust news companies to deliver the truth. I have a few friends who pay attention to all the wars going on, sometimes see happenings on 4chan, and in some cases like the Valencia floods, I have friends who can give me direct reports on what's going on.

It's fairly easy to implicate the West on being worse than usual when it comes to (corporate) News, read "Manufacturing Consent". TL;DR there is no guarantee that news media needs to be accurate, in fact they're encouraged by the system they reside in to work with those in power, they get more money that way.

Older I get the more apathetic I get to the outside world. I recall I used to love reading the news. That fell by the wayside. No clue who to trust, everyone's got a worldview to push after all.

Basically stopped caring from a long time ago and my main source of news is just word of mouth and random forums. If the news intrigues me, such as the recent CEO murder case, I will do more research on my own, but otherwise I would not devote too much attention to them.

I still have a list of RSS feed from a variety of sources and I would read through them (mostly just the title and summary) from time to time.

Same. I'm not sure if it's a good thing, as OP said I also feel quite out of touch with other people because of this.
On the other hand I cannot be hassled, it feels so useless to keep up with 99% of the news when its dumb stuff that has no effect on my life and stops being "important" in 3 days. Everything that's really important is going to reach me, one way or the other.

I don't have a single source of getting news. There has never in history been an "unbiased" news source so the only way to get news and be informed is to look at multiple sources. Checking "traditional" sources like Reuters or Al Jazeera isn't enough as many times they'll refuse to cover certain stories.

For example, I grew up in the USA, so I'll check Reuters, Al Jazeera, and then check the sites that most people say are biased. These include corporate biased sources like Fox News and state media like Russia Today.

I think it's important to remember that news is only entertainment AT BEST. The reward for journalism, the "Pulitzer Prize", is named after a propagandist who wanted to ignite a war with the USA and Spain. So it's not fair to judge a person on whether they're "informed" or not if they don't keep up on the news.

Word Of Mouth, but also Leftypol. Whenever something big happens there's usually 3 or 4 threads about it there. And getting a chuckle out of some of the crap people spew there helps lighten the mood. Based Newsanon usually gets the small stuff that doesn't reach front page news.

For me, it's Breaking Points, the best online news program.
It's more of a podcast by a pair of American pundits than an actual news program, and they hardly cover every major news story that happens, but in terms of keeping up with the world - you could spend your hour in way worse ways. I do it while working every day. They have an interesting dynamic of a left-wing and a right wing co-host who come at things with different angles but often find a lot of common ground (mostly about how rotten and broken the current political establishment). When they don't, the spontaneous debates don't get stomped. I find both hosts quite agreeable and they really do devote a lot more time talking substantively about the stories that most programs like CNN or Fox just seem to want to gloss over.
Worst part is the branding. The thumbnails and video titles are fucking horrendous clickbait.

I only get what I am unwittingly exposed to via others, so that's overhearing in person, overhearing a radio that I didn't turn on, or seeing it in part of an online conversation that I also would not have initiated. While I don't want to be an annoying hipster that thinks they're better than everyone else for knowing the enlightened, rare truth that the media is manipulative and often untruthful, I am a firm believer in the line from Thomas Jefferson that "the man who reads nothing is more well-read than the man who reads nothing but newspapers".

For science and tech news sites i like PhyX and TechXplore they are quite spammy though

4chan for Vidya news, Fox 4 for world news. Then I have the newsbreak app that came with my phone, don't care much for it but it's there.
