i usually take anything and everything i hear with a grain of salt, even if it's from a close friend. i've noticed a certain kind of complacency on the internet as of late when it comes to never providing sources in favor of just saying whatever, as people will just take you at your word and rarely question it. it's really sad, especially on bigger platforms like twitter. people will state all sorts of trivia or rumors, or beliefs without any sources to back them up and when they are asked, those sources end up coming from the most vague or unreliable of places. sometimes, they're completely made up and being pushed as truth just by how the post is being worded. but, i digress.
as far as news is concerned, if i truly care about something, i just look into it myself by doing as much research as i can. otherwise, i don't believe much of anything without a provided source. misinformation feels like the worst it's ever been.
