I'm doing the /mu/ thing where you listen to a new album every day. I'll post some standouts here now.
This is one of them :
It's library music and it's odd because it's quite late as far as this type of music is concerned, being released in 87.
If you're not in the loop, library music is a "genre" of music incidentally. It's basically music released by labels to be sold to TV stations, radios, video production houses that need "generic music" that's easily described through simple components and "moods" so you know exactly what to buy depending on the video you need to make.
It really evolved with the times. 70s library music was very funk-inspired and because of that it's heavily sought-after by DJs.
This is from the very late 80s, it is described as "Modern small group music featuring saxophone and keyboards for leisure and city life."
And that's a perfect description.
Because it's more modern in terms of production, and because that tone of sax has been emulated by absolutely everybody else, it feels like the soundtrack to a JRPG city. I swear some of the tracks here felt like I had heard them in Trails in the Sky or something like that.
It's very nice.
