Since you linked Lain's intro then I'm going to link the outro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_DYTjGalqY . Same band also has a different version of the song, that's also nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exNq6LVN3_4

Puella Magi Madoka Magica has a lot of great songs in its OST.

League of Legends releases a theme for each champion release and events, many of them are great if you're into more orchestral stuff:

These are probably very famous, but..
Guilty Gear Strive & Metal Gear Rising OST's are great if you're into metal with silly lyrics lol.
Undertale for the chiptune music, Hotline Miami for the synthwave.
Furi has also a lot of great "tense" fight music made by Carpenter Brut, who also made some of the songs in Hotline Miami's OST.

Too many good songs to pick from, I would end up with a hundred links.

One of my favorite anime OSTs of all time has to be Nichijou. This song in particular always gets me emotional when I hear it.

Sakamoto's theme is another favorite just because of the way the melody is so perfectly suited to his character. They use a lot of chromaticism and tension to create a theme that sounds like it's trying to be taken seriously, but ends up looking foolish.

Also, I never noticed this until recently, but I'm pretty sure the chord progression in the beginning of this song is the same as Autumn Leaves. Try to hear the melody over top of it and you'll see what I mean lol

gingermilk ZUN is legit a musical genius. Whenever I think of his music I always think of Mokou's theme first for some reason. I think I've just listened to it way too much

dog Raspberry Heaven is an all time classic. I love their character single for Osaka, it's so cute

mallorystarck very relatable. the second I see the word Mokou, the second her theme starts to play in my head.

I havent bought the new sonic game yet, but being a sonicfag i get the OSTs recommended, gotta be honest, this is kinda good 😳
sad that there is no crush40 stuff tho iirc

      2 months later

      I'll leave some.

      And two from Cobra.

      💀

      6 days later

The pokémon anime had some real bangers back in the day.

Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator has the best video game OST period
It's much greater in game because it's dynamic and changes with the game but this thing is pretty good too

“The Words“ from Big O. Gives me Johnny Quest vibes. I think I’m probably just a spy drama fan wearing the skin of an anime enjoyer.

As a Sonicfag, it would be easy for me just to post some music from Sonic and call it a day, but im going to challenge myself a little. Instead of posting Sonic music, i shall post some of my favorite tracks from his fabled rival, Jumpman

A classic track, arguably the most kino opening to a Mario level ever solely for how the music is synced to him landing on the planet

Something about this track always saddens me but also fills me with joy at the same time. It's an odd feeling.

I don't think remaking games that you could already play on your 3DS via backwards compatibility at a much cheaper price was a very smart move. Oh well, Sad!

The beta sprites for the final boss were fucking horrifying, seriously im glad they did no- OH SHIT NIGGER WATCH OUT

There's so much great stuff here. Einhander, Ridge Racer, Cobra--all a lot of fun.

I'm partial to arcade shmup soundtracks, like Battle Garegga:

I also have a special place in my brain for these two tracks, both of which have short-but-intense riffs of dramatic tension. First up is from the Android Kikaider Anime. The martial synths build up until 57 seconds, when the good part hits. Everything drops away except the drums and hollow piano riff. A bassy synth kicks in soon after, taking the lead with sad electronic jazz. That lasts for less than 30 seconds in total but I love it.

The Gundam Battle Assault 2 mobile suit select music has a more clubby techno permutation of this. Starting at 1:23 you have the same thing: all the previous jamming vanishes, leaving only a few driving piano chords, hazy legato synths, and a discotheque-pulsing bass. Each couple measures add a new layer of sound until it reverts back to just the piano, bass and haze for way too short a time, and then resumes the Chillout grooving (which is solid in its own right. And my Chillout devotion is a big part of my Ridge Racer love).

      Saya no Uta
      Umineko
      The House in Fata Morgana

Nobuo Uematsu is the only reason why I ever started making music. I remember playing Final Fantasy VI on the SNES and remember being captivated by the different character themes and the music. I remember downloading FL Studio 4 back in the day and making "arrangements" of songs from FF6 and FF7. They were just me taking midi files and changing the instruments, but I remember wanting to be a "composer" like Nobuo. This alone drove most of the poor decisions I have made in my life (studying music theory instead of music production, going to music school in the first place, etc.)

I honestly think his best work was Final Fantasy IV. It has some of his best themes and gives me incredible nostalgia.

I am also partial to Yoko Shimomura and her work with the Kingdom Hearts series. (Although we cannot forget some of her earlier works that were also quite good.

sigh I guess this is the part where I have to admit that I actually like the music of Toby Fox... As cringe as his games and fanbase are, I think he is very competent at vidya music.

I also am a weeb so music from the 2HU games comes to mind.

As for posting links, I will leave you all with some of my favorite Castlevania OSTs

Yes, I will never not defend Circle of the Moon as a game and as an OST. (Don't make me post pictures of my copy of Circle of the Moon, which I still play on my GBA).
