My obscure soft would be...
MP3Tag - monstrously good to bulk edit mp3 file names and tags. Especially good for me since my whole music collection is strictly mp3 files.
Hard Disk Sentinel - it is very useful to be able to catch the moment your HDD starts to go down and replace it in time.
FastStone Capture - hardly anything can grab a screenshot better and faster, in my opinion.
JitBit MacroRecorder - fast and simple macro recorder, allows you to record some fast macros for tedious tasks. Like, do a Brightness/Contrast adjustment on a hundred images and save them. I mean, you can't write a script for everything. Also, you can go really deep with JitBit and write some real deal macros with it as well if you feel like it.
MediaHuman Audio Converter - best audio converter I've seen at the moment.
MP3 Folder Structure Maker - name says it all. Once again, real good for my mp3 collection.

That's about it for obscure without going into really specific issues. I think I've named too much mp3-related ones as is.

I just have all my music in a single folder and whatever folders they come with when I download them. I just let cmus handle everything else, and maybe add metadata to the files if need be.

There's nothing that Gimp can do that Photoshop can't to my knowledge. But I've never really met anyone that uses it. Most people just pirate Photoshop instead of learning Gimp. And I understand why, it's not friendly at times and Photoshop definitely has more documentation making it easier to learn. I only started using it years ago because someone had sold it to me as a better paint.net which was sold to me as a better MSpaint.

Also, how much music do you have? I've only realized that I need some additional folders somewhere around 9000 files. Until then it was fine with just metadata as well.

Fantasy I use GIMP for all things nowadays. It is quite good although I do not know how to do everything I used to do via Photoshop. Now that i've got the hang of it though I enjoy GIMP and I use it for all graphics related to the forum that I make, although its not in a professional capacity at all.

tables CMUS is nice, I used to use it a lot on my old core2duo laptop! Nowadays I use Strawberry music player (a fork of clementine), it scratches that old 2009 itunes itch for me

You might want to avoid my mistake and starta bit more thoroughout sorting right now. It will be really tedious to re-sort thousands of files - I mean, even more thousands than you currently have.
Though, of course, it might always be that you will never have my problem for whatever reason.

It works fine as is. My music is automatically sorted by artist, regardless of what folder they are in, in my music player and that's good enough for me.

Yea, I see. As I've said, it was the same thing for me.
My problem was that I've started to need sorting by genre to go with that as well. Artists alone finally ceased to cut it.
Like, hip-hop alone can go into the 80's, in the golden era or into the modern folder, with certain artists having tracks in all of aforementioned folders. And the sound is vastly different. Sometimes I do like to listen to them all together, but it is good to keep'em separated. For me, at least.
It's not like I insist or anything though.

TagUtil is probably one of the best music tagging tools for *nix systems. Im one of those weird people who manually tag their music collection, so this is a super nice tool to have.

Twinkle Tray for windows. Let's you control monitor brightness on the fly for desktops. I would not be able to use my PC without this and can't believe it's the only option for something thats standard on all other computers.

There's a few pieces of software that I've felt were pretty underrated while also being insanely useful
Quick Fix My Pic! - A very obscure piece of Windows only software. It's a stupid simple image converter that I've regularly used to convert webp files to pngs.
Lossless Cut - Trims videos. Nothing much to note about it; I've just found it really useful and don't hear about it that often.
QOwnNotes - Notetaking program that uses markdown. Not an electron app like most of its competitors. I use this one pretty much daily.

h8net QOwnNotes is a great piece of software. I was using obsidian but swapped to it recently. I do all my markdown stuff in it (at least for site update drafts)

A good piece of software thats definitely underrated/unheard of is OpenAudible, its a paid piece of software that converts audible audiobooks into m4a files and other drm free formats. I should really enquire about getting some kind of discount code or affiliate link for the site 🤔 I do like it that much that i'd endorse it... inb4 some massive controversy where theyre actually evil

What made you switch off of Obsidian? I moved over from Joplin a month ago and have been really enjoying it, although getting it to sync with my phone was a pain.

For the question topic: I do a lot of audio related things and REAPER is the end-all of DAWs for me. It's smaller than 1GB, hyper customizable, and endlessly flexible. It has way more than you'd realize once you start right clicking everything, and was made by the same dude that did Winamp.
yt-dlp, ffmpeg, and mpv have all been really great to me as well. I ended up using mpv as a photo viewer due to it's borderless UI and opening speed.

There was nothing that forced me to move or anything, obsidian is a fine piece of software. I am very much someone who would rather use a FOSS version of something if it meets my needs, and QOwnNotes does everything i was using obsidian for.
I'll likely use obsidian on android if i ever end up using my android tablet for notes/blogposts etc. I currently dont sync the files, although I think i'd probably use rsync to do that
