They're not exactly things I should link here, but I love finding people's about websites
Especially the myspace-like retro ones

I like to check on heyuri.net every now and again, comfy board culture for casual perusing. The Ayashii world thing they have is fun as well, a little glimpse into the Japanese internet culture of the past. Any Heyurians here?

    mechap oh no 🙁
I hadnt heard of it at all, did the janny say how much he was paying or anything?

mechap This is my first time hearing of heyuri, but why isn't such an important matter announced on the website's homepage?

EDIT: I posted a list of imageboards akin to 4chan, but the list had a few .onion sites, so I thought it'd be a good idea to delete it. I don't want people going there.

I don't know. Lainchan's server costs 55$ per month, so that might give an idea of the total cost of heyuri.

          Merulox
Again I don't know. It might as well be fake.

The nanosphere is pretty much dead anyway. It is just too easy to host things on tor/i2p nowadays. As a result most of those image boards are now long dead and to be honest I think it's better that way.

          EDIT: Somehow I can't @ someone anymore.

            Noticed, working on it
            mechap
            Maybe fixed?

mechap I can imagine imageboards being a bit pricey since they can be so heavily media based. 50-80 per month sounds about right depending on cores/ram/storage. I'd like to offer my help but i'm not sure if i'd be able to moderate an imageboard as well as the other stuff im doing tho

              Lumeinshin
Yes it seems to be working fine again. Thanks !

              Surely textboards are less expensive.

mechap I suppose it'd depend on how long data is kept for and such.
purely text is easy peasy, ive had an XMPP up for 3 years basically without noticing it. In a good way. Its images/video/audio that cause issues. It'll also depend on userbase and posting habits.
In my experience media is where you get bandwidth issues. Especially when people dont try to compress things. Easy to end up with a slow feeling site

EDIT: Looks like it was fake btw, site will stay up im pretty sure

https://search.marginalia.nu/ - Search engine thats (mostly) void of SEO rubbish. You can find really neat places with this.
https://gyate.net/ - Touhou gyate shitposts as a booru.

I tend to lurk on both of these boards but they are generally more dead than not (sadly)
https://dangeru.us/ - Funny themed board. Its backend/frontend is also gpl so you can host your own copy if you so desire.
https://heyuri.net/ - Interesting threads, some other neat things like posting drawings, but otherwise an "anti-mainstream" imagboard.

There was another search engine similar to marginalia, I cant remember what it was called but it was pretty similar, a bunch of small sites in a search engine, but I think it was one where you request your site to be added. It was mostly neocities type sites but it was also neat. I think i'll spend some time rummaging thru marginalia today or tomorrow lol
                  Great Suggestion!

Lumeinshin referenced this discussion from [unknown discussion]

I mentioned in the introductory post that I have an interest in linguistics and history, this was a site that truly ingrained this passion in me as a kid:
                    https://www.omniglot.com/
I'm forever grateful to the webmaster who made me realize early on my passion and enthusiasm for languages.

Hearing some of you talk about Heyuri positively is disheartening. The guy who owns it is a psychopath, a faggot, and a scat fetish.

                      1. Psychopath: he allows invasion threads, including discussion of uploading of CSAM.
                      2. Faggot + 3. Scat Fetishist: he allowed multiple threads about scat fetish to stay up.

I had a VPN for three months just to spam the site with frogs and 'jaks.

A site I like it campendium.com it tells you where you can park your RV. I spend $10 a day on food, $5 a day on other stuff, because I live in an RV: its so cheap.

Your post reminded me of lolcat.ca

Commander Grausam Sometimes I click on a link to a site and i get the feeling of being back on my family pc as a kid browsing random sites, thats definitely one lol. fits perfectly on a 4:3 monitor and has GLORIOUS 3d shading 😆 Cool site!

av1videocodec I didnt see any of that the few times ive browsed it, but then again i only went on parts of the site that seemed interesting. Idk anything about the site owner aside from I think he was the sharty guy?

you became the very thing you sought to destroy

A site like campendium sounds cool, I think the closest analogue I have is a toilet finder but I had an app for it 😆 helpful for the old folks
