I really do like how simple sentence structure seems. Like, I was talking to my friend who has been stationed in Japan a couple of times, and he says that the Japanese don't really have a concept of singular or plural, so something like tomodachi just means the concept of friends.

after I passed N1 several years ago, I haven't really studied it much other than reading books in japanese and watching anime. so my skills in speaking and writing are nearly non-existent by now.

well it's mostly just reading, you can learn basically every language just from reading given enough effort

you can pick a lot up from just listening to a lot of stuff and picking up on repetition of certain... words.
its why a lot of weebs who watch subs know the odd phrase or word, aka me lol

Came across a cute word while watching anime the other day: わがままボディ. Literally it reads 'selfish body', but the internet is telling me it means something more like 'voluptuous'. The anime was New Game!, so naturally both meanings were employed to make a yuri bait pun.

I'm able to pick up on teeny bits of conversation which is nice, using duolingo did help with that since it showed off some structure, although there was lots of 'nobody says it like that' that i thought. I should watch more japanese channels on youtube to try and help with picking up language.
I do need to pick back up duolingo and other japanese learning things. I did buy a couple volumes of azumanga-daioh for when i can read a bit of kanji

Lumeinshin have you tried lingodeer? it's a better alternative of duolingo for east asian languages imo

Woah, a fellow ultra-weeb here! My Japanese has plateaued myself after my interest in weeb stuff started to decline a few years ago. Aside for some irl reasons, it was worth learning to enjoy reading certain VNs

Lain yeah I still maintain my basic japanese skills only because I am constantly exposed to japanese content on the internet and I read books in it. not so lucky for other languages I have learned lol

Very relatable. For a few years I've been mostly worked with translating texts, so my conversational skills have diminished to the point of speaking with an eloquence of a brick rolling downhill, in those rare cases when I do have to talk in moon, especially when sonkeigo/kenjougo is involved. I've been promising myself a sabbatical to mend the skills I've lost, but for now the rust is accumulating. Pardon my necrobumping.
