Very fun, but I did not back it up and my HDD died so it's gone forever.

Personally I'm making a small project featuring cute little onion people trying to reach their god. Game Maker is kind of a trash engine but it's been working well enough for a couple of years and it's really coming along.

I have begun work on a new rpg maker game.
20 days on the free trial and lots to relearn.
It's been very fun seeing how much stuff I remember has translated to the new version.
Last one I used was VX with most of my time on XP.
MZ is a similar but different beast.

If I manage to stick with it for the full 20 days I'll pull the trigger and buy the new engine. My code for VX still worked, I tried it. But I feel like I need some sort of new and fresh investment to force myself to keep going at the start.

I've got a few different things I'm working on/planning for: someday starting up my podcast again, do some more painting, get supplies to shoot black powder rifles, make more music.. Being patient is my biggest struggle.

My biggest project currently is my own Website I'm making, Which still needs some areas before It just only becomes purely updates from here on out. But I do have various other projects that's more in thought revolving around my own characters.

I would love to know if you can get RPG Maker working on Linux! I think that's practically one of the few things that have prevented me from switching but Hopefully I can learn a more open source code game framework in the future.

Otherwise, I think OHRRPGCE would be something interesting to check out. FOSS and it's also on linux.

I've been busy at work (and been ill lately) but I will let you know if i do, so far its just the runtime not playing ball. There is EasyRPGPlayer for running completed games, but ofc i need to be able to test stuff whilst its in dev. Ive got one of those chinese handhelds and thats part of why i want to use it, easyrpgplayer works like a charm on it.

Created my own game dev general, but just saw this thread and thought it'd be more suitable here because of RPG Maker talk. Anyways, my topic was about the struggle between posting previews and keeping absolute secrecy. I feel like my work ethic is completely wrecked. I want to keep secrecy and conserve surprises for the playing experience, but the anticipation of posting a preview gets me through grueling development. I can't be the only one who has this awful habit.

This is a project I've been working on for around 1.5 months now. It's an RPG Maker game about you, the strongest patriot, aiding REAGAN in the quest to overthrow DARK REAGAN. I'm copying the Sound Stone system from EarthBound, but instead of recording the 8 melodies at sanctuaries, it's parts of the national anthem at American landmarks.

I'm working on my Battletech minis, working on my new house, and I want to build a ballista in the garage for fun. Yesterday I rewired my kitchen so it no longer has 60 year old cloth jacket wiring that probably contains asbestos.

Yes, i love that game, and i've talked with the creator on a few occasions! her future game "Amazing Treasure Valley" looks very promising, but it's a different direction than Mega Man Sprite Game, though i'd say it's still worth checking out when it releases.

Have a book plotted out with tons of references, a sequel to the one I've already written, but I've layed it aside because I think words just do not cut it - I need illustrations. And I am too poor to hire an artist, so the only option is to ~~kidnap one and force him into submission and slavery~~ learn to draw myself.
I haven't shared the first book anywhere either because of the very same reasons.

And, of course, countless notes and scraps of mods for different games lying around that I will finish one day. It is not some kind of a... metaphor for something abandoned - I know I will finish them one day. I came back for Just Cause after it laid on my desktop for 12 years and it turned to be one of my best thingamabobs so far. So no matter how much they will lie around, I know I will finish them one day.

I'm the sort of person that constantly gets ideas for things to do but rarely ever follows through and when I actually do I usually get bored quickly. I clearly need to think it thoroughly before starting anything new whether or not it actually interests me.

Right now I'm waiting for delivery of single miniature to test my painting after a long pause. I've wanted a proper model army for a long time and even thought of buying a 3d printer for it, but I need to think that through and decide which army I'd want to build.
I've also wanted to try cosplaying in different historical- or fictional uniforms, perhaps even making them myself, and going out with them. I already play-pretend with myself when I go hiking so doing it with a matching dress would be fun.
By far the longest idea that has stuck with me is writing an alternate history novel. I haven't write anything down (ever) but I've researched it for a long time. I have the setting and timeline outlined pretty well in my head so I'd have to start focusing more on the characters. And also actually write something first to hone my skill.

I've been the art director and the main composer of a game that me and 2 other friends have been working on for some time now.
Here's one of the songs that i just finished.

I also used a music box sound from another song from Nichijou as well, but i don't remember the name.

Most of the things i compose are done using Schism Tracker, which is a really good iteration of Impulse Tracker; A DAW that was widely used to create songs back in the 90's, but that is still used nowadays, even if just by a few.

If anybody is interested in Trackers, you may find these two videos to be both fun to watch and also informative

Songs made with trackers can be easily find on Youtube and TheModArchive (Although the latter is under maintenance, and due to a shortage of staff, it may take some time to actually be able to do things like upload your own compositions and literally everything but listen to music)

If you actually like the software, you'll probably use it more and more until you get familiarized with it.

barriszta Your songs are really good. Definitely has the vibe of those jrpgs where 4 teenagers use tha power of friendship to kill God.

I have been listening to a lot of tracker music lately, but I have only a small amount of experience using them. How do you get used to the workflow, if you are used to more modern DAWs?

yukarihinata I havent really made any headway on that at all sadly and I think anything like that will have to go on the backburner for a year or so.
I am tempted to do some more work with the forum, maybe some video ads. I may commission you in some capacity depending how that develops. Thank you for the offer though and if I do any vidya work i'll give you a shout!

barriszta sounds good, I used to follow some bandcamp artists that made similar. I never ended up buying any of their tapes tho sadly. The dreamy sounding stuff is nice but for casual listening i'm more of a pop or metal guy

First of all; thank you!
And about your question.
Well, for me, it was a matter of doing one or two songs; it was HORRIBLE at first but, after watching the tutorial i sent before and having a sample pack where i could get good quality sounds, i got the hang of it.
I started to understand how to use Schism Tracker that way, it's pretty confusing at first, but trust me, if you have 3 hours of free time, then you'll get the hang of whatever tracker software you want to use.

After that, you increasingly get better and better, until you stop using loops and you completely embrace only sample notes, in order to create your own melodies.

I wouldn't recommend trying to do the same stuff you do on a modern DAW like Ableton on a tracker like OpenMPT or whatever.
Both programs are powerful and such, but it's obvious that trackers are less complex and therefore, you can't do certain things
with the same ease.

The reason as to why i wanted to use trackers in the first place is because they let me be more creative; the simplicity of them gives me fuel to actually create new stuff; so i would recommend that you find something similar.
Maybe you like the interface, or just the mere concept of composing music in a different way.
Trackers are DAW's, but very archaic and weird ones, so take that in mind in order to not get stuck.
