Heretic (sorry for the double post. i had errors while uploading)
@Lumeinshin
Can you, perhaps, remove the second paragraph in his post since it's a double?
tyl In the west most people worship the government and big corporations who work together to oppress us without anyone even noticing and saying its for our convenience.
I like the local russophobic crowd, liberals who hate our government, yet fail to see the exact same moves and approaches done by the western government.
One of my friends thinks that it is possibly better in Europe, and I constantly tell him that even if it is - it's not much better.
And, frankly, that's what scares me the most: the whole thing is worldwide. Well, save for underdeveloped countries, of course. The first world is going the same way down, and it is frankly rather horrifying.
Even if I pick only the some points of your posts to reply to, I all in all can sign under your every word, since everything you speak about - I can see the exact same things here. And I read and hear the exact same things from other people from all over the globe. That's daunting.
tyl Used to upload some stuff on YT years ago but I just rage quit one day as I'm still stuck with my 2010 mindset, getting copyright takedowns for game music that was fine before, while pranks and other garbage are propped up on the front page I got tired of it, you could say I let them win by leaving by choice.
Well, if anything, I feel you.
Been running my channel for 8 years at this point, if not more. And I'm definitely thinking about dropping it every now and then. I managed to get, like, 6K subs, but they mean nothing: they all came when algorithm favored one of the videos I uploaded way long time ago, which, ironically, has nothing to do with the main theme of my channel.
On average, my vids get about 50 views and then get forgotten, buried forever. Given how much effort I put into most of them, it is a rather painful experience.
Still, I guess the positives outweight the negatives in my eyes. I od it for myself first and foremost: I am my own viewer. Some of the videos I recorded - man, I watched them dozens of times. I definitely like my own videos, or what its worth.
And talking to my microphone has therapeutic qualities. I guess it streams from the fact that I'm lonely as fuck, but, still, it helps.
On the bright side, I did meet several people. One became a dear internet friend of mine, several others are just skillful modder guys, and we do help each other every now and then. One time I even managed to get an order for a hack: dude paid 200 bucks for a custom-made Madden NFL unlocker. On a somewhat somber note though, the guy died of cancer just a week after I finished the hack - crazy stuff...
So I'm still doing it, for now. For what it's worth, I just like doing videos, first and foremost.
Though, of course, I wish I had at least some kind of voice, and could actually promote an obscure video game or two. The one I play right now feels like a masterpiece, yet its Discord server has only 10 people. I wish I could come to my microphone and say: "People! Play this! Do not let this work of art walk right by you! The genius who made this lives in your time, in your world, here and now - notice him, for he deserves it!"
But alas...
tyl I don't really wanna bother running my own site, its a lot of work, my written content is more useful on other sites where people may actually find and use it.
Well, after contemplating where and how I should upload my work, I decided that my own site would be the best place to it. Maybe I'll end up uploading it to some other sites as well, I don't know... We'll see.
Either way, it will be just a static site with torrents and/or links leading to my written content and a contact form, so running it wouldn't be a problem.
Part of the need for my own site comes from the fact that I write in my own language. English web has a lot of cool sites for written stuff: Archive Of Our Own, FanFiction dot net and so on. Plus I know forums like this one - I uploaded my stuff both here, into my blog section, and onto Agora Road, so that's nice too.
But in the local web? I know of one site, and even then I'm not sure how good that one is. There are some factors that make me hesitate. And for whatever reason I just cannot find good forums in the local web. Maybe they are there, but you know how hard it may be to find something that is not in the main stream.
So my own site is the way. Besides, it is always cool to write your own piece of web in Notepad, for the sake of the good ol' days.
tyl I even got told IRL like twice I act like I'm 70
This also make me want to point out that back in the days people could leave their whole lives without tech and traditions changing much. Which allowed them to be, like, a proper part of life.
Nowadays in just 20 years the world is very different from the one that I grew up in. With all my knowledge, I'm on the side of the road already, discarded like and empty can. Because most of my knowledge is about systems that are not relevant anymore anyhow.
Wasted life. Insanity.
tyl I can actually be my own datacenter
The only thing that pains me is the knowledge that if I am to die tomorrow, all my data, all my HDDs which I so cared about - pretty much a good chunk of my life would be discarded, unneeded by anyone. Ah, well, feels like we've just talked about this part...
