One Punch Man Season 2, Worth it?

I don't watch a ton of media but I was rather impressed with One Punch Man season one. The story was a bit oddball and different and was notable enough that it became a passion project for a number of well established anime industry artists. It seemed like one of those once in a decade special things that happens in different media fields. However season 2 is apparently done by a somewhat less well regarded studio and I remember seeing a lot of doom and gloom around before it was released.

So how did that work out? Should I bother checking it out?

I'm interested if it's worth watching too. I've heard the animation quality is subpar, but I'm willing to accept that as long as the story is still as good as season 1.

It's pretty disappointing that so far we're only seeing responses from 4chan zoomers.

What were you expecting the answer to be exactly?
The studio changed, if you watch enough anime then you know what this usually means. Even if the adaptation is still a good one, it won't ever match the impact the original had.
So you have a few predetermined choices to make; if you want more of S1, tough luck. If you don't care about the production value too much and want to continue the anime, then there's no mystery. If you want more of the story, and don't want to avoid reading, then read the manga/webcomic.

I was expecting an answer that is longer than a syllable, something more like your later answers in the thread.

While season 2 does not match the quality of season 1, I'm getting differing opinions on whether season 2 is even worth picking up. Is it so horrible that the anime should be dropped for the manga? So far it looks like the answer is no.

So I'm gathering the animation regressed to fanservice pantyshot and swingin tits anime quality. Does the story totally shit the bed as well? I'm fine with the fight scenes running at one frame every three seconds if there's a decent story around it.

Sometimes a show only has one or two good seasons and I'm fine with it if that's the case here.

Moreso bad-CGI quality, the big worm thing is particularly guilty of that and it was a big moment in the anime, which would have definitely been really nice in S1 but was okayish at best in S2 by JC Staff.

OPM is an adaptation so the story doesn't change in quality from S1 to S2, maybe the execution is just a little lackluster. I watched it when it aired so I don't remember too many details.

Nah Have you tried watching the first episode? If you're fresh off S1 or remember it fondly then you'll get the answer you want very quickly.
S2 is nothing more than another case of a different studio fumbling a show's sequel season. It wasn't the cultural phenomenon that S1 was when it released, watching a few clips of it again (namely the worm one I mentioned in my previous post) I wouldn't say I would watch it given another chance, it just felt rather uninspiring and that I could be watching any other Shonen series and nothing would change, I guess it just doesn't capture the intended essence of the story?
I won't directly recommend the manga/webcomic because even the manga fumbles itself later on, and the webcomic is rarely updated these days.

It's funny. I watch Toradora every year and I consider it one of my favorite anime, yet OPM S2, also by J.C. Staff and made 11 years later doesn't even register in my memory unless someone explicitly mentions it.

Most of the fights in season 2 are instant victory jump cuts where the winner is striking a pose as the loser flies off into the air. Only a few of the fights got any actual animation done for them, and they weren't even really all that impressive. If you enjoy the story it's still worth watching, but you'll notice a real downgrade in visual effort.

Pretty late to the party with this reply, but I would generally agree with the sentiments above. It's a very steep drop in animation and narrative quality from the previous season.
That said, I really enjoyed the interactions between Saitama and King, definitely the highlight. There's a number of really good conversations they have.

As I understand it, the One Punch Man manga's story has written itself into an insane corner, so- part of the problem might be that they don't really have anywhere to go. Not with confidence, at least.
