Unfortunately, I think the reason your solution and my solution won't work is the same: It just isn't profitable enough to justify.

Right now a Tier 1 / Tier 0 deck is going to have at least a few months before it gets a ban, entirely so that people can feel like their purchases were worthwhile. ...And so that when the next Tier 1 / Tier 0 comes out, it'll also seem worthwhile. After the honeymoon period, Ashened got left in the dust. No one is going to buy a deck that gives Spright so they can get Batteryman support.

I feel like I could be convinced to play Digimon, but the real problem is that I much prefer a digital client, and much prefer it at a computer at that.
Hermit neet hikikomori shutin jokes aside, Master Duel's UI was instrumental in teaching me how to play the game and I would routinely make illegal plays without it.

DCG has a few online clients. There's project drasil which is a dueling book analog that I like using, but the site has been SHIT lately. Constant crashes that make it unusable. It seems like DCGO is more up your alley. It's fully automatic like MDpro3/EDOpro. The only downside is that the dev only adds cards after they're released irl.

It has come to my attention that yugioh actually had a banlist 2 weeks ago that I somehow missed! They actually hit the two biggest decks which is nice and the format is apparently pretty diverse right now. HOWEVER, I don't expect it to last since Maliss and Ryzeal are getting more support in the next set, so we're probably going to go straight back to the same old 2 deck meta. I might try to dip my toes back in a bit if anyone wants to play some gentlemen's games on EDOpro or something. Haven't played in 2 years or so.

That Alysion looks pretty good, I hadn't heard about that. I hope it's not relegated to smartphone jail. I don't know why companies do that. Who wants to sit and play a card game on a tiny screen? Great, you can use your mobile data on the bus. Afterwards you can go home and play fighting games over wifi.
In the mean time, that DCGO looks pretty legit. I might take a look one of these evenings.

Also, yeah I've heard the TCG is not in a bad place right now. A lot of variety at the upper level. Of course, the problems are broader than that, but credit where it's due.

If you're interested in DCG, I would recommend these videos for the rules. The first goes over the main rules of the game, while the other two cover the two new mechanics added afterwards. They're all pretty short, sub 7 minutes. The only things I would add are
(1) No effects can be activated or look into the breeding area unless they specifically say so (Check ProtoGizmon BT13-080 or Greymon EX9-009 for examples)
(2) You can only have 4 copies of the same serial number in the deck, but any number of that name (4 copies of Greymon EX9-009, 4 copies of Greymon BT12-062, etc)
(3) BT sets are main sets and EX sets are side sets. Not much of a difference between them
(4) There's a very big discord server called "Digimon TCG 2020" that I would highly recommend. Massive population, practically 24h judge chat, and a chat for every single deck out there (though, you might have to ask to find a thread for you deck since they have goofy names sometimes)

Also, try looking up CardProtagonist or Rustmarrow on youtube if you want to see some sample duels. They both explain their card effects in full which I found super duper helpful as a newcomer. Rustmarrow gives some really detailed explanations, but his channel's kinda sporadic with activity (which shouldn't matter too much if you just wanna see some sample duels)

Man, the game was shaping up to be kinda nice and diverse after the recent banlist, but with the release of ALIN, it's back to Maliss and Ryzeal (Now mitsurugi flavored). It's all so tiresome. OCG's turn 0 Dragoon doesn't inspire much hope either

Aero Despite maybe being the single strongest legal card in the game Dragoon alone isn't thaaat scary. It's just nasty in decks that can do more, or fill their backrow with interruption. And hey, dragon ruler support is cool.
But... yeah, I'm not really interested in what the newest meta is. It just seems to be whatever the latest tier 1 / 0 deck is versus the previous tier 1 / 0 deck. Not even the lore is all that great these days. Sinful Spoils is kinda a joke- not to mention, it's yet more yurishit.

Still been meaning to look into the Digimon TCG. Hard to devote time during a job hunt.

Somnolence dragoon by itself is fine. But when you can make it turn 0 on your opponent's turn? That's pretty dumb.

Thoughts on the new format? No banlist, but in exchange certain cards cost points with a budget of 100 per deck. No pends or links. Play pot of greed alongside guardian chimera? Personally, I'm fairly interested, and konami has actually been communicating about the format using their blog which is a huge plus. I might consider whipping up a deck, but I guess it will take time for people to figure out the deck building. Might play exosister since it's straightforward.

Unsure if this will totally win me over compared to the digimon tcg. Honestly I just haven't had much time to play at all in the past few year. I've resorted to pestering people for quick games of blackjack.

Yeah, I'm quite optimistic about the new format- especially if it comes to Master Duel. It's more or less the proposal I made above, so I think I'd be quite the hypocrite to say it's not good enough.
