how are you preparing for the coming heat?

now that its almost summer, how do you guys handle it? being someone whos lived all their lives in the heat(dry heat), its not really enjoyable but much nice...

Nah but actually we are the same. Even during the winter I've never been able to make myself do it.

Fair. I have a flatcap/newsboy I'll wear to keep the sun out of my eyes but I've been eyeing a wide brimmed hat for yard work for a while now. Keeps sun off your neck and shoulders better.

For some reason I've never been able to find a baseball cap that fits me. Idk why.

I just get a fan, and take a cold shower mid day. Honestly in Washington State I would argue that the heat isn't that bad, I just prefer to savor the feeling of heat when the year cycle of rain starts again.

Was 29 degrees here in the UK today. I know we often say "oh, our houses our built to keep heat in" but I take that to its extreme as I work in a steel shipping container on a hill. Needless to say its unpleasant but honestly I enjoy the heat while we have it.

Winter has already effecrtively ended here, did the clothing rotations and all; sleeveless shirts, lighter blanket for windy nights, stored my slippers away, getting sweaty even if I'm not doing anything. Not looking good, wish the cold lasted a little longer so we could get some of the rain season in to calm things down.

can't handle anything hotter than +20°C (68°F). can't think straight, can't do physical work for too long.
+25°C (77°F) is considered a "heat" for me. dying.

summer
so yeah. summer is a curse, a torture, a punishment. i don't need "to touch grass", i need to touch snow to feel better. snow is the blessing of the gods.

my survival methods:

move futon to the corridor with a good wind blow
tonns of sunscreen
DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT A HAT
curtains to block all light
being active at morning / evening / night
drink woter OR ELSE!
cold compresses / cold shower
cotton light clothes (not too tight!)

Hot weather only. I sleep with 3 blankets even now. Winter is intolerable hell. Give me the blazing heat, a ceiling fan, and plenty of water. I will grow like a plant.

Sitting in a room with a ton of hot computers running hotly when its hot outside.
The best advice i have is to get a rotating fan. i find if the fans sits on me for too long it dries out my eyes and i get sleepy.
at least its super beautiful out, but im spending the most time inside because i have to get everything ready to move!

I guess I'll be spending plenty of time at the beach, like on every summer (hell, I just came back from the beach).

AC isn't very common around here (north of Spain), so I guess I either cope or spend time in the water, or drinking cold water. Sleeping will be troublesome though, I'm definitely not having a lot of fun with the current temperature in my bedroom.

I'm happy it's summer. I'm glad to see the blue of the sky and the green of the plants. For several months, I feel the bliss of life.
Then it will go back to living hell again.
I wish I had money to move south.
How do I prepare for the heat? I laugh and dance and open the windows wide.

I'm going to California in a couple weeks, I'm... scared. I'm from a country known for being cold and horrid all the time, I really might melt as soon as I touch down. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with heat?

I get what the post is saying, and I say this as someone who'd happily live in the North Pole. I think I speak for most snow fans when I say the ideal winter wonderland is filled with bright buildings, people in bright clothing, greenery (indoors, lol), etc. Kind of how I imagine 80s New York to be haha. I hope you can move to the South as you please one day!

Kyon As someone who's visited california and is from a rather cold area, wear a hat!! I remember going to the west coast when i was younger and getting sunburned on my forehead so badly that it looked like leather! i peeled the whole thing off in one tug. it was rather disgusting, but it was fine the next day. Still, wear a hat!!!

Also, similar to dealing with the cold, i find its also a mental barrier. Once you accept that you will never be comfortable it gets a lot more bearable!

I do not think such a place even exists. And eternal snow is definitely one of the reasons why nordic cultures are so brutal, and why today they depression and suicide rates are generally higher than in the rest of the EU.
To top it off, 80's were left in the 80's. Much unfortunately, as I definitely miss those times too.

true. i'd add the outdoor (artificial) lights, especially during the polar night. with light, everything is better. and a little of personal preference: not a humid winter and wet snow, but dry freezing cold, crunchy snow and winter morning sun :3

It depends where in California you are living. I'm assuming it's San Francisco or Los Angeles, in which case you are fine. The climate is one of the reasons it's so expensive to live there. If it's interior in the desert, then prepare to combust once you step outdoors.

Thank you! I feel like hats make me look silly, but I'd rather look silly than have my forehead turn to leather lol. I'm glad you ended up okay by the way, it sounds a bit scary
