I don't really care for phones. I even spent two whole years without one. When I needed a new one, I went to buy a reconditioned Sony Xperia XA2 from 2018. Despite being six years old, it works like a charm for the little use I make of it. Texting, calling, maybe some Discord/Telegram when I don't have the laptop, some photos, that compulsory banking stuff, and rarely some browsing of the internet. For the most part it sits in a drawer, I only take it with me when I have to go out of town or when I have a driving lesson.
As for my phone journey, of course, when I was little, it was the ultimate sign of being grown up. I was 10 when I got my very first phone, a Samsung with a vertical sliding keyboard (still my favourite model, if I could get by with just that, oooh boy I'd get one and nothing else). It was new, but most of my phones were hand-me downs from my parents. I got then a Player One, which I used for years, then took my mother's old LG around age 14 (which was quite heavy, and filled to the brim with Touhou music). I got a Xperia U when that one phone crapped out. Then, a couple years later, my dad gave me his old iPhone 4S as he was switching to a new model, and I have really good memories of it. Unfortunately I hated relying on Apple stuff, so I asked for a new phone, an Android. Got a Samsung I kept for a few more years until I decided, no phone anymore. And then came the current Xperia.
I don't understand the people who are glued to it. I was never this type of person. My biggest vice is the computer and my little mp3 player that I take everywhere with me. When my phone will crap out, which may not be until a long time, I'll just get a new one and it will encounter the same half-forgotten fate, lol.
