Nobuo Uematsu is the only reason why I ever started making music. I remember playing Final Fantasy VI on the SNES and remember being captivated by the different character themes and the music. I remember downloading FL Studio 4 back in the day and making "arrangements" of songs from FF6 and FF7. They were just me taking midi files and changing the instruments, but I remember wanting to be a "composer" like Nobuo. This alone drove most of the poor decisions I have made in my life (studying music theory instead of music production, going to music school in the first place, etc.)
I honestly think his best work was Final Fantasy IV. It has some of his best themes and gives me incredible nostalgia.
I am also partial to Yoko Shimomura and her work with the Kingdom Hearts series. (Although we cannot forget some of her earlier works that were also quite good.
sigh I guess this is the part where I have to admit that I actually like the music of Toby Fox... As cringe as his games and fanbase are, I think he is very competent at vidya music.
I also am a weeb so music from the 2HU games comes to mind.
As for posting links, I will leave you all with some of my favorite Castlevania OSTs
Yes, I will never not defend Circle of the Moon as a game and as an OST. (Don't make me post pictures of my copy of Circle of the Moon, which I still play on my GBA).
