yeee its just a placeholder whilst i was sorting out PWA functionality. so phone users can add it as an app on their home screen (i did make it an actual app but it was so reliant on the installed browser there was no difference)
if/once we get a consistent user base i'll commission a real icon

      so its been about a week of the site being up, its still up and I like the software/interface. so its probably about time to push it a bit further.
      I've added my little announce post to my pinned profile on fedi, so we might get a little trickle of new users via that.
      I've posted in a thread for advertising on sushichan, i know we've had some views from that, no users yet.
      I havent really got a plan per se yet for advertising, i've not really advertised anything before 😎
      Sitting down to plan it isnt something ive done, maybe i'll buy some adspace somewhere or such, tho i'd have to make the ads.

      Once we get some more users i'd like to do stuff that would work better on here, say a book club, that way people can longpost and refer to things in a better way than fedi allows but we'll see.
      for now we'll just go with word of mouth, if you have any friends you think would appreciate something like this feel free to give them a nudge. That goes for any chinese or japanese speaking users, tho i'd probably make a new tag for both to make it easier to filter/organise. Just let me know and I can accommodate them. Same with any general ideas from you or anyone, as always im all ears.

          aha, sounds good to me! I am surprised sushichan is still up since the last time I checked (probably a year ago) it had one foot in the grave already. maybe you could also try advertising on lainchan?

          I wish I could provide more suggestions, but I really don't at this point. hopefully we can make this forum more alive.

              I think its okay for now, so long as people pop in on occasion we'll gently nudge activity up. I dont wanna force it too much tho but we'll see. I was hoping to get OAuth working so we could say make it easier for fedi instances we like to login and use it but it wasnt playing ball

                  Lumeinshin it might be hard to attract fedi users. we already have fedi and matrix where most people are active on, so they don't really need a third platform to communicate except those who are forum lovers.

                  yeah I guess we will just wait and see lol

                      thats true yeah. I think there is room for some more of our fedi friends to enjoy a forum but people going out of their way to join at the start is tougher. I think part of its my fault because im just winging it 😆

                      I'll likely buy some ads going into december and i'll look into it soon to get ready for it. it would be nice to have the opportunity to meet some new people

                              I would say ads are worthless for the most part… but then again I am here…

                              I block ads on desktop, and I would think the vast majority of 4chan users block ads as well. Even if the ads are not malicious, most of them are for crypto rugpull projects or discord groups that I have no interest in seeing.

                                dog Yeah, that's true. On the other hand if it's possible to buy ads for only certain boards it could be useful, depending on the demographics and if you use a good banner (maybe with literally 'hobby/casual/social forum' or something like that written on it). I could see people from boards that are less shitposty and more on topic like /ck/ /an/ and /out/ be more receptive to it, for example, because more people come there for actual discussion.

                                        you can target ads for boards and regions.
                                        I casted a fairly wide net but I didnt hit every board or region

                                        ads are really cheap. the way it works is via bids, so you only have to pay like 0.05 per 1k views, depending on where on the site
                                        im pretty happy with impressions and signups

                                              Some way to show what people are replying to without clicking on the link would be nice, since people don't seem to use the quotes feature. Like if you hover over the replied to link and it showed a preview or something. Yeah it looks cleaner this way without inline quoting everything but it's kinda hard to follow. Idk if this is even possible with the software you're using just a suggestion if you can :P

                                                BTW guys if you want to use a text emoticon instead of emotes you can put a backslash before it like this "\:P"
