Has a musician changed your life?

Has there ever been a point where an artist/song has made you rethink your life and change your perspectives or influenced you in any big way?

I'd say for me it's probably lil darkie being a 100% honest, for like two years he made me push myself more and try different things since I saw him try his hand at so many different genres of music, another artist that changed me was Daniel Johnston, his songs have the most sincere lyrics which made me write my own and reminded me to be nicer to others, even if I don't comply most of the time, I'm not a perfect person but so isn't anyone.

I toured Prince’s Paisley Park and got to see his Oberheim OBX and original studio and it legitimately changed my life forever, no joke. One of a handful of reasons I decided to pursue art professionally. That place is so fucking awesome man

Nothing so drastic as to change my life. But the song Return to Dust by Theocracy really made me think about mortality and our inevitable decay. But more importantly it reminded me to treasure our time on this earth and to make the best of it.

I'd say that it was probably Death Grips.
The first time i thought about doing music of my own was when i listened to DnB for the first time, but i didn't actually tried anything. That was until i actually got the hang of Death Grips, with, what i think, its their best album through this day ; The Year Of The Snitch.

They pushed me into trying new ways of doing music and, of course, of expressing myself through art, which i think is way more important.
I'm still really young, so it hasn't really changed my life in what respects to what i think.

Can't really say "changed my life", but a number of tracks definitely hold a special place in my heart and in my mind. I try to follow the message they send.
To share one example, I guess it would be neat to go for the most exotic one, something that might make this place a bit more... unique.
I've ended up translating this song for a friend of mine. However, I, unfortunately, haven't made a video for this translation - yet, at least - so translation will go as spoiler below the link to the music.

Double-posting is not welcome, I guess, but, man... Here's another one I like a lot.

It was created as an answer to John Lennon's Imagine. Also, kind of crazy I've discovered Lullaby with Burnout Revenge. Those old racing games had simply outstanding soundtracks.

@Lumeinshin By the way, I think this place could use some kind of a code to minimize YT videos, like on 4chan, or, I dunno, script to automatically hide them under a spoiler or something? These YT vids are really huge when you browse the place from PC, and that's pretty much all I use.

I frankly think Beatles overall and Lennon in particular are vastly overrated. Their best period was their early one when they just recorded covers of rock'n'roll classics and used similar sound in their own songs.

Brief phonepost.
There's a lot of music and artists that impacted me a ton, but for this post I'll single out Tom Waits.
His wretched gravelly voice and the dark/whimsical subject matter of his songs resonate greatly with me. First heard him in "God's Away on Business".
Most recently, "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" is the most poignant for me. It just expresses the whole anxiety and fear of life and ageing and our inability to really grasp the span of our time. We understand it intellectually, but feeling it in your bones is a whole other matter. Rather than a quarter-life crisis or a mid-life crisis, it's a perpetual whole-life crisis.

Well, time to post another one, I guess...

This one I've heard first in Crazy Taxi... 3, I believe? Man, racing games back in the days had some monstrous soundtracks. Not even sure what they are now. Maybe they are still that way, but I haven't played anything newe than NFS: The Run at this point.

No artist has changed my life. I think it's more my life circumstances that changed my music taste.
Growing up I didn't have internet and wasn't near any place where I could really buy music. But I did get an MP3 player at some point. Had an issue though if you haven't figured it out. There was no way for me to get music for the device, so I had in improvise. I went through my parent's CDs and cassettes and ripped all those, went to the local library and ripped their CD collection, or got music from video games.

Nothing I listened to was influenced by radio or big record labels. It was just a random collection of stuff I could get my hands on. People in school would listen to stuff like Wiz Khalifa and I'm just enjoying Sting or Niel Young. I listened to just about anything I could rip and throw on my MP3. I think it made me a lot more open to listening to whatever, which I like. I don't go to top charts for music, I don't get recs from algorithms, I just listen to anything. My favorite way to get music now is to go to bandcamp's homepage which will update with which albums or songs have just recently been sold and just click on stuff.

I still do also rip stuff from CDs. I live in a college town with a very large library that has a huge collection. I can always find new stuff.

But if I was forced to actually pick an artist that had an influence on me it'd be a strange one, Morning Musume. I don't normally listen to jpop idol stuff and I still don't for the most part. But I was given free tickets to a show they put on and it was a blast. Turned me onto going to live shows for sure. I try to do one a year, covid ruined it, but I got back into it.

Why not post another one, I guess... This one I've discovered in Guitar Hero 3.

I dunno if video games promote violence, but the music they used to stick into those video games definitely promoted the desire to bang your head against the wall of the system. And I kind of follow it, I guess. Cannot recommend this way of life to anyone else though. People seem to be indeed happier inside the system rather than on the outside fringes of it.
Or maybe I just should make the final dash, say fuck it and leave for the woods.

Man. Being first definitely makes them special kind of assholes. Makes me wanna delete all the 7 songs involving Metallica that I have on my HDD. On the other hand though, these songs are currently in my DC++ share, and it also makes me want download the whole Metallica discography and drop it into the share just because. I'm not sure which move appeases to my principles more.
Dr. Dre is a bitch also, but well, I always kind of knew that. I like his 80's work in World Class Wreckin' Cru though, can't go against that, but he never was much in my eyes as "gangsta" or whatever else.

Fried by Fluoride changed my personality a lot. Probably for the worst because it's incelcore. But I love his music anyways.
