"Something above my own existence" is a fancy term for something that can be described as 'sentient' from our own understanding and that is very possibly above life itself, something God-like, in other words.
As for the divine, it probably has to be above life or perhaps reality itself, but really I feel it's as if it's meant to be used in the context of humans trying to describe something clearly out of understanding and also objectively non-human, however also being similar to us in some way.
Definitely a hard term to describe.

I believe life normally acts selfishly, as that's simply a better way of surviving, however not for every single use case, and so we trick ourselves into being selfless because in the end such a thing will be beneficial to us. Animals are very complicated so this works out really well, as this selfish selflessness emulates pure, raw altruism perfectly when needed.
My favorite example of this happening is love, humans can be very selfish and egotistical by default, however love shines such a light onto a person - it is the most admirable thing to me when someone believes so dearly in another's happiness that they will sacrifice their own, all because love makes another's happiness our own.
To fight is to live, but to live is to love.
It's probably why some religions greatly value unconditional love for all things, you abandon any 'evil' thoughts you may have as accepting life itself and furthering it becomes a reason for your happiness.
