What was the first game u started playing for thousands of hours and influenced your young self into becoming a gamer for me it was roblox though I don't play it anymore first time i played it was i think 10 years ago lol, i fucked ass at doomspire brickbattle and sword fight on heights (IV?) and i made a ton of friends lol good times

Retard? Roblox, enacting in the adventures the players gave to me was a once in a lifetime encounter, and for that I am greatly thankful. I still play it, though not as much as before. And now I'm trying to make a game in Roblox, wish me luck!

It was definitely the very first Stronghold game and later Stronghold Crusaders. Ironically, I am absolutely terrible at all RTS ever except for those two. I still play them occasionally.

The game that made me really love video games was probably Super Mario Galaxy. Minecraft and later Team Fortress 2 also made me fall in love with PC games, and I distinctly remember somehow getting my hands on Phoenix Wright and Rhythm Heaven and loving those games. Although thinking further back, I remember being shown Submachine, Samorost, and the Grow series of games which made me love point-and-clicks and flash games... this ended up being a lot more than just one, but I guess things weren't as simple as one game changing my life.

Amazing! I completely forgot about this one. A bit unusual, but it was actually my mom who first played it, she was interested in games for some time as well, after we got our first family PC when I was a kiddo. I remember how one day she brought the CD home, it also had a tiny booklet with official artworks!

NaiJi Yep, my dad was the one who introduced it to me. You should check out the Submachine collection when it hits steam, it's not necessarily super similar to Samorost, but it is a dark, atmospheric point-and-click that I played when I was around the same age. Unfortunately you can't play the originals due to flash being abandoned.

Having the original CD and official artbook is sick as hell.

I don't remember if I played Minecraft first and then Team Fortress 2, or the other way. Anyway I played both games for more than a thousand hours each.
After those two I got hooked into League of Legends, it's been over 7 years and there's a high chance I have surpassed 10k hours there

Fantasy Yeah thinking about it pokemon would have to be the game for me, leaf green funnily enough, then i got a copy of gold which i cherished, although weirdly i was RUBBISH at that one because my sister didnt have a johto region game to coach me through. For some reason tho I did adore it.

I was hooked after playing my first video game, Pokemon Red. I got it when I was 3 or 4 years old and it was life changing. Taught me how to read, I was way advanced in math for my age, and I met a lot of people trading Pokemon.
I no longer play that series of games, they've lost their charm. Nowadays I'm mostly hooked on MMOs which was mostly from getting in Maplestory at an early age too.

That game completely changes people for the worse, me included. I've met a bunch of people during the years that were absolutely not mentally stable, and I'm not talking just about raging in game. Nowadays I only play with an IRL friend, we just fuck around and I refuse to communicate with anyone else.

I remember playing Pokemon Blue on my brother's GameBoy Color. I couldn't read so I really didn't do much, I got told to pick "New Game" but never save. Few years later I got a GameBoy Advance SP with Fire Red, that was the first game I really played and completed.
I also don't play anymore though, stopped after Platinum, I just wasn't into it anymore

Gran Turismo 2 and Test Drive 6 started my love of cars. Test Drive 6 had Dodge Viper - my first love. Gran Turismo 2 introduced muscle cars into my life. Since I have no money to drive those IRL, I still play racing games with all those classic cars in them. When Need For Speed Underground came out, it was revolution... I will never forget NFSU2 as well. Driving 106 in the airport during Christmas night with Skindred's Nobody and Unwritten Law's The Celebration Song... forever in my memory. Also, turns out Asian Dub Foundation predicted the future with Fortress Europe. Read those lyrics and shudder.

Other than racing - TES series, of course... From Daggerfall to Oblivion. Never finished the main quest, spent hundreds of hours in it. Still have my Oblivion savegame, still hope to return to it one day... Shame I've lost my Morrowind and Daggerfall saves. Should I even talk about it? My home in Balmore or manor in Anvil ? All the NPCs I knew by names? Or how I can never forgive Skyrim for destroying Morrowind? Really, they've just spit in my face by making that canon.

And yeah, Pokemon... Mine was Leaf Green. Pirate cartridge where everything was on japanese. I've completed the whole game without understanding a word. And then, at some point, I can only assume that the battery died. I still hold on to the cartridge. I may try to replace the battery one day, but so many years later, I'm pretty sure the saves are gone...
I... have this will on ocassion to start up the Emerald on the emulator one day - Gen 3 Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald were another three games I've played a lot, so I'm kind of Gen 3 dude... Anyway, yea, sometimes I feel like starting up the Emerald on the emulator and use my cheating skill to... bring my team... I don't know. I kind of dread it as well. Will it feel even remotely the same or will it feel like I'm just messing with the code? I really doubt the last notion, since I know I still feel the magic and fantasy, even though I dab with code, but still... something was really special about my Leaf Green mons, I'm not sure I will be able to being it back.

So yea, Pokemon Leaf Green, TES series and some racing games. They did something to me, the bastards. Also, special prize to Monster Rancher. Whoever thought it was a good idea that your monsters could die of old age left a scar on my soul.

For me it was Starcraft Brood War. I remember I was at this kids house where they didn't own a TV and that blew my mind, but they did have a PC with Starcraft Brood War. A few years later I discovered it, and ended up playing it non stop throughout middle school in place of having actual friends. It taught me to overcome my gamer rage, as well as how to use a computer. I later became a programmer and I think Starcraft played a role in that. Also when Starcraft 2 came out a decade later it was the first game I actually dedicated to studying and reviewing my games to improve. Haven't touched it in years, Chess is my new strategy game love, but I'll never forget a particular game when I overcame Ultralisks as Terran in the Heart of the Swarm era when pulling that off was nearly impossible, and that was the exact game that pushed me into Platinum.

I wrote in another thread that for the first few years of my life the only console we had was an NES, but what really got me into gaming was the Wii. Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, and Mario Kart Wii. To this day Galaxy and Mario Kart are still probably two of my most played games ever. Though it came a couple years after, Minecraft as well. It was the first PC game I really got into and is for sure my number 1 most played game still, even if I rarely play it now.

Edit: In fact, now that I think about it I played Minecraft for very unhealthy amounts of time. A huge chunk of my free time from 2013 - early 2016 was spent on so many different servers; I had a piece of paper covered in server addresses. It got so bad my parents limited me to 2 hours a day for a while, and eventually my PC flat-out broke because I had it on so much. Back then my username was Buttercake297 if by some incredible chance someone else here recognizes me.

My earliest gaming memory is probably my dad letting me run around in Super Mario 64. I was very young then, just barely conscious. I mostly remember just walking around and climbing trees in the courtyard outside the castle.
from that point on I think games were always pretty much a part of my life. since I've been able to form memories, videogames have been in my solution space.
But I think the game that really got me a little later was Ocarina of Time. It was the first game I started playing after I got just slightly older and aware enough to actually somewhat understand complete objectives in the video game.
When you're a kid you kinda just play whatever your parents give you I think so I spent probably years of my life exploring every inch of content OOT had to offer, and I've still gone back to it on occasion years later. Even now I've been thinking of trying a randomizer.
Ocarina of Time was really such a foundational game for me that no other game so far has been able to really capture that feeling.
