You may know this little guy for sad videos posted on social media displaying its singing and the futile attempt of the last member ofthe species at finding a mating partner. All their relatives are also extinct, reasons of extinction are the typical introduction of foreign species and destruction of their habitat, diseases spread by mosquitos and two hurricanes. The last female was presumably killed by the second hurricane, the last male was last seen in 1985 last heard in 1987. Rest in peace Kauaʻi ʻōʻō

Lumeinshin i got a soft spot for birds as well, also the history of the dodo is just as tragic if not worse because they lived in a paradise that they didn't need to worry about predators nor food, so they also lost the ability to fly. As soon foreign especies were introduced to their habitat they got fucked hard.

This one is not extinct but is critically endangered, I don't know much about them other than the fact that they remind me of dodos, I'll call them 21st century dodos, they are a species of flightless, nocturnal parrots endemic of New Zealand. It's also the world's only flightless parrot and also the heaviest, was part of the Maori folklore, hunted by them and rarely tamed as pets. As of now there are 248 living individuals, all tagged and living in 4 small islands off the coast of NZ. All predators and threats have been removed and are closely monitored.

Maybe an obvious choice, but RIP the passenger pigeon. 3 billion to extinction in like 50 years. Honestly kind of impressive that we managed to kill all of them, especially considering they flew 60 mph and we only had like nets and shitty 1800s guns and stuff.
