I don't necessarily go out of my way to watch shoujo, but I've seen a few. My favourite would probably be Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, but mostly because I like Shizuku so much.
Shoujo certainly is a bit strange. Especially compared to shounen I always liked the sensitive and complex portrayals of emotions in shoujo. Maybe I'm stereotyping and using an unfair comparison, but I've been rewatching Naruto and Bleach lately and what struck me is that most exploration of emotion is limited to very specific, simplistic situations that are usually resolved at the end of the episode/arc. Shoujo feels more open-ended, making it more engaging.
On the other hand, there is a lot of weird stuff in shoujo. The portrayal of men is the main one for me, no offence. Your average shoujo love interest would be in jail for aggravated stalking irl.
