I remember reading about a year and a half ago that AI chat would be used as a replacement for search, and I think a few months later heard Jersh from MATI say the same. I didnt really think it'd be the case, but apparently so.

We may see a brief period of time of search being useful and dare i say, fun, again. Though it'll be short lived once the language and idea control is more properly cemented.

Microsoft producing something else than clunky junk that only companies bound by contracts use ? I can't believe it. I mean since we know nobody uses bing they at least paid the guy for shilling.

But that aside, this is a great idea, and actually this is exactly how I envisioned that chatGPT would be used in the future: a super effective search engine. I think this will change the world by providing much easier access to any information (actually just having access to a version of ChatGPT that is not down 40% of the time will be great). However it is not usable yet to answer a precise question so I wonder how they will implement that. And by they I mean Mozilla cause no way I'm using bing.

Now we just need to put that inside neuralink and we will transcand our humanity, or produce useless junk for capitalism faster, either of those.

I think it will be largely better, but I think it would be more susceptible to brainwashing? it just has to be programmed to draw certain conclusions based on some factors, so they might not even have to create specific answers/rule out certain links in response to current events.
IDK I distinctly remember a time in say 2011-2014 when google search was basically perfect, I would put in note style questions of like 4-5 words and it would give me a relevant link+answer. Not been the case for some time sadly.

I think we will see things like gemini with a traditional indexing/search gain some more traction in teh next few years. we've sort of had a little bit of a comeback for more traditional websites the past year or so, so we'll see how it goes.

AI stuff is super cool to see but I think my brain just doesnt like the idea really beyond the 'wow thats neat' factor
