Tastes gradually change over time or sometimes ones' just too stubborn to try something new.
Let's discuss!
For me that was rap & I newly discovered metal for myself.
Almost a decade ago an artist I liked started making rap music in a band during a phase of my life where I strongly disliked rap for some petty, youngling reasons, lol. The band ended up making autotune/cloud-rap music (which back then wasn't nearly as common or popular) and some of it strangely helped me calm down and fall sleep, and one band lead to another, making me try out different stuffs & now it's a genre I listen to almost every week. The band eventually disbanded, but the artist went for a solo-career and is one of my favorites to listen to.
For metal I just always thought I wouldn't like it or it'd be too hardcore for me, but another rap artist ended up releasing a more metal-esque album last year with growling n stuff, which surprisingly I really liked. Found Bad Omens last year, really liked it too. 3ish weeks ago I found Sleep Token when I was autoplaying Bad Omens, and damn do I like it. I've seen the band around, but I always judged it by the cover thinking it'd just be generic growling and screaming, but nyope. I doubt I'll ever become a full metal head in this lifetime but some of it really hits the spot (I've been experimenting with trying out more heavier bands, liking bands like dayseeker or President too which I liked a lot too. Lyrics and melody are important to me, but I'd be up for some metal recommendations!)
My usual genres are: Indie/Indie-rock, J-pop, OSTs, EDM/House, Utaite, lowbeat, rap and generic pop
