friffri One problem I have with big cities, like the one I've been living in, is that there tends to be more churn of small businesses. Maybe for the lady in the story, she sees the store moving around, but for me, I see many stores moving around- like birds that use different houses every winter.
There was a place I used to go for about 5 years, that'd sell Mexican Coke - which used to be quite hard to find. They were also a mail-pickup spot, which was nice for the community, and had a lot of character with windows so full of signage- you could barely see what was inside. When you did go through the doors, the aisles were so narrow you'd have to walk sideways, and the selection was so eclectic, you'd be sidling several times. An old guy ran it, Iranian I think, and he struggled with English sometimes. It was a good place though, with a lot of heart.
He sold it during Covid- got his exit I guess. And then a new convenience store took it's place. I'm not even sure I'd say the new place has aisles. It's more like a circuit, with some junk food- a few fridges- and a back wall full of bongs and vapes. Some young Indian, or maybe Bangladeshi guy is running the show- and needless to say, the tone is changed.
Can't say I'm having sex with that store.
