How much matters at what college did you study? in?

Like I wonder, how much better are people, let's say studing at elite college vs private college. I observed that my enviorment, is filled with smart people. But at my highschool enviorment, most people where without any form a identity. very uninteresting people. I study at public college,unpopular college for IT .(Proably because it is catholic, and isn't known for IT, more for humanity subjects). Atleast I don't have to pay.

xDamkiller Any school is a good school, what matters is whether you can sell yourself somehow. Being in or having been in an elite institution is sort of pointless if you never managed to graduate, or if you remained introverted. I'd suppose elite colleges were worth it back when a lot more resources were gatekept, but I don't really see a point now, other than for making connections, or to have an experience. Talented people will always make a name for themselves regardless.

Fantasy Moving out from an early age is impressive honestly, and I really believe it teaches a lot of skills people should possess, it's best to not stay dependent all your life.

Studying at a high ranking school opens more doors for you, but honestly 90% of what you're learning is the same, unless there's a class that's only taught at School X

In a large scale, which school you go to doesn't matter as long as you get the degree and are able to do the job. The top schools will make life much easier immediately after school because you are able to network with people more entrenched in the field. The people hiring will also see a well known school and want you over an unknown school. It may sound bad, but you'll still be able to get a job with your degree because the top schools wont be able to fill all of the hiring spots. It wont be at the best places, but it won't be a wasted degree, unless you stop trying to find a job in your field, or you realize you hate your job. Plenty of people go to average schools and have good lives (many go to no school and have the same outcome).

I went to a state school out of high school but ran out of money so I dropped out.
Now, years later, I am attending community college. Classes are much harder it feels like and they are less expensive too. I prefer this over the state school I initially went to. Not only was it mega expensive but I never really felt a challenge and I lost interest despite taking the same classes. I decided to not carry over my transcript and instead start fresh so I am retaking some math and composition classes.

Nobody mocks you or it is flustrating to see that 19 year old, is already ahead of you. (Like physics).
I see a lot of people much more succesfull than me. Like a guy having 52% and 70% on extended math and physics (high scores) and having driver licence and living in own apartment

Nobody mocks me and I don't get frustrated seeing people ahead. I don't see it as a competition or me being behind at all. In many of my classes there are people older than me as well. It's a pretty mixed bag at community college even though it is still mostly 18-22 year olds.
What is crazy is in some of my classes there are high school kids. A 16 year old was in my comp 2 class which is wild. Same class had a 50 year old lady that owned a plumbing company as well.

For what it's worth, in one of the classes I attended during college, we had a guy who entered the musicology program at 56 IIRC.
He had worked a shitty factory job all his life and now that his two kids had found jobs themselves, he quit his factory and went to university to get credentials. He had played the piano as a hobby for decades and he wanted to spend his last years working as a piano instructor instead of staying on his factory production line until a career ending injury or retirement.
I can't think of anyone ever saying anything negative to him or about him.
As for comparing yourself to the guy more succesfull tham you : don't. Just don't. There's no point to it and you'll always find a bigger fish to feel inferior to so it's best to know your lot in life and improve it in the way you want and can instead of what you'd "need" to be on the same levels as those better off than you.
There's no easy trick to it, envy and jealousy are horrible and counter-productive states of mind and there's no such thing as "envy management classes" the way you have for anger management unfortunately. It sucks but that's how it is. Took me years to learn to stop caring about not being where I should be "for my age" and relative to where others appear to be.

Wow, in my college classes. They made fun of me, because I started college at 20, instead at 18. and also I don't have a job or apartment or driving licence.

Once you get into the workforce, if you aren't already, you'll meet so many people in your position of different ages that no one will care when or how you started.

Page 39 of that PDF the story about Caroline Sacks. Compared herself to her peers, felt bad about herself, changed fields of study entirely. In reality she was doing well but against her peers felt insignificant.

College is so depressing. I dropped out. I wish I had ignored my parents and just moved out.

On the bright side, if I never went to college, then the sequence of events would be different and I never would have found out about Bill Gaede.

This to me is odd. I did not listen to my parents and did move out and it hurt financially. It's amazing how much food and bills cost when you don't make much money. Staying at home is so much more economical. I should have waited until I had a partner or thousands in savings before taking the plunge.
Though if you're not saving or working towards moving out I can see it being a massive hindrance. It's very easy to just remain comfortable and use any extra cash on luxuries.
