Desktop only lovers, shoo! (joking... unless?)

Why do you prefer laptop over desktop PC?
(overall or for certain tasks)
because i want to be able to grab it, put it in my backpack and go! also, blackouts. plus, i don't have a money or interest in desktop PC, like, at all.

What laptop(s) do/did you have?

old lost laptops were from Asus and Dell, don't have them with me anymore. now i use MSI (GaMeR lApToP), and have been using it for 5 years or so. cool things about it: battery life and ventilation system. it can run ~~DOOM~~ all games i need.

What laptop design do you like?
(there's only one right answer, i don't make the rules...)
Thicc. as for color... hmm... i only have had black ones. but i keep thinking about silver/gray.
also... when i can see more than just a bottom!

What is your usual care routine about your laptop? Do you repair it?
(cleaning outside, removing the dust, etc)
more often i just clean the keyboard. ventilation is good already, so i don't really clean the dust? but i think i should at some point. i will train myself to repair stuff on other laptop that my friend generously did gift me! (one is winXP!)

Do/did you have stickers on it? Show them!
i've collected many through years (5-6 years), and some of them died (i guess too thin paper), so i needed to clean the place they were at, and then put something else.

boreal cryptid Most of my laptops were either getting old to the point of no longer working right or I end up overheating them like my bed being an easy bake oven.

First one I recall owning was an Acer branded one, can't recall the specific type but it ran a pirated copy of Windows 7 before having to downgrade to Vista. It didn't run it too awfully bad but it recently was discovered that the HD is well toasted. I could try and see if recovery was possible but I have no experience in that mess... Next two were both Dell branded ones: an Inspiron and a Latitude. Both have had their issues but the latter was bad when it came to the battery. It didn't last too long, but then it was also a secondhand PC I purchased from my university prior to quitting in the middle of the pandemic.

Borrowed an Acer for a while from family member and that one had an issue with the CPU causing the blue screens to pop up. Now my main driver has been the recent Lenovo IdeaPad. Aside from the fact it runs Windows 11 give or take, it's been really nice to use. And I've been trying to use it on a table over a bed to keep it from heating itself into hell.

My daily driver was a ThinkPad T420... the keyboard was very good for a laptop, almost desktop quality and feel to it. It was pretty outdated though back in 2020.

Although as a child, I remember wanting a netbook so badly. I would spend hours on YouTube watching videos of people comparing various netbooks running Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, such as the Asus EeePC and the Acer Aspire One. The Sony VAIO P was probably the most beautiful netbook I ever saw. I remember visiting the Sony website and staring at the netbook's various colors and being upset at the outrageous 1000+ dollar price tag.

Fast forward 15 years later and I eventually bought a mint condition one for 1000 USD off of eBay from some guy in Japan. It's a very nice paper weight since I read that the Intel GMA500 drivers were proprietary so you can basically only run command line installs of Linux. She deserves better.

Yes, that is two mouse buttons on the left of the screen and a small square area on the right of the screen that acts like a mini trackpad. This is reminiscent of older UMPCs where the intended operation was to carry the UMPC by the hinges if it was a clamshell design.

Now I have a MacBook Pro M3 in Space Black but I barely use it because I hate cleaning fingerprints.

I also feel like a laptop isn't really a laptop unless it's pelvis-crushingly beefy, but I grew up with some real chonkers from the 2000s when laptops were first really taking off and that definitely colored my tastes.
I'm currently using an Aorus 17G, which is a little bit bit thin for my liking but for the first laptop I've had in the last 10 years, it's done me well. The only complaint I have about this one is some occasional graphics driver failures when Unreal 4 is open. A bit problematic for a dev machine, but for gamedev on the go- you sorta have to expect bullshit.

I certainly haven't put a lot of thought into laptop care, probably not as much as I should. Do people normally take theirs apart? Regularly send them in?

Oh, and not too much in the sticker department. One little Signalis sticker for any fellow patricians to recognize.

Some Macbook slop my old program forced me to buy. I hate mac so much that I named a folder C Drive. At least it charges fast and weighs nothing...
