We're getting to the time of year when the first snowfalls occur. This makes me ask, what is winter like in your area?
I was always used to a blanket of snow lasting from December to March being a part of life in winter. Shoveling snow out the driveway was a common chore. The local parks would groom cross country ski tracks. Snowmen usually perished by kids tackling them rather than by melting. By late February, people started getting sick of the snow, fatigued by shoveling their driveways and the white snow now grey and dirty from being on the ground so long.
Recently I've learned that this only happens in continental climates and my experience isn't applicable to other locations in high latitudes. Some people have winters that are cold, damp, and rainy with only a chance of a snowstorm (much like April weather in my location). Other's must travel to the mountains to see the snow. Some live in climates that are more frigid than mine but become so dry in the winter that they only experience dustings of snow.
What is your experience with snow? Do you ever wake up late at night to see the first snowfall of the year? Do you walk outside when it's snowing, when everything is quiet and tranquil? Do you look at the bright white yard in the morning from the window, sipping a cup of hot chocolate in your pajamas? Or do you wish you lived in a warmer climate?
