Genuinely love smartphones as a concept, little computers in your pocket that can call anyone anytime and you can get any question or query on your mind in seconds with a few taps of the screen but hate how they are exploited by corporations and governments to constantly shill you ads and work as massive wiretaps that track your moves 24/7. In almost two decades since their existence they have stripped away attention spans and become mandatory if you even want to function in society, more harm than good I'd say but its a pandora's box we can't turn back as they just way too useful and engrained in our society now.
I hate also how every smartphone feels like a downgrade from the last too: no more headohone jacks because they want you to buy their wireless buds, no more so cards as they want you to buy the pricier models, and soon there will be no more physical sims as that'll be just be on the phone also. It all feels predatory and you have less freedom with much newer phone model, I've never felt inclined unless my current phone breaks as the technology is so good now that why should you have too? Doesn't matter as they eventually force you off your old phone anyways by cutting off security updates at certain point and manufacturing phones to fail at the certain point anyways, you're sucked into this cycle of constant upgrades and I hate it really as its so environmentally harmful and scummy when most older phones are just fine for most users.
I do pity the younger fellas growing up with them too, every embarrassing thing they do as a teen is online now and they can't escape any bullying as that continues online when they get home too. Must be awful to grow up now and the full consequences of this in the long-term are yet to be seen.
In short, cool devices but ruined by the worst of folk.
