Good morning all! (at the time of writing)
I'm trying something slightly different... I'm writing this one via my phone. I'm sure nothing could go wrong.
I hope you've all had a good month, this one has felt like it's both been very long, and still quite quick. Might be the year feeling quick rather than the month. It was a bit of a bad month for me personally, lots of personal drama and just general lack of fun
Site wise.. it's been a fine month, some periods of quiet and some activity. I hope that's an accurate reflection of your feelings on the month too
Down to business:
advertising
This month I started running a small banner on FurAffinity. The site is, as the name suggests, a furry site and its users may be somewhat different to our usual image board bunch, but I think giving them a chance to talk about non furry stuff would be good for them (lol) and just generally it'll be good for us all if we interact a bit more. They can talk about furry stuff too if there is demand but we'll wait and see. Cost wise it's not too much at all so I am considering making it a standard ad I run.
I am unsure whether I will maintain the current amount of spending per month on ads for the site, but I think I will decide what to do with that at a later date
new friends
We had a surprise visit this month, from non other than illuminatipirate of agoraroad fame. Illuminatipirate wanted to have each other as site friends and I have obliged, so there is now a link to the site on our links page
Agoraroad is an interesting forum, more active than ours and with a bit of a similar lean, but with a focus on y2k and the earlier Internet nostalgia. It's definitely worth a look if you think it might be fun
other site
I haven't done as much work on the partner/other site this month. Most of the tags are decided and such, I just need to decide a name and then set it up. I have some reservations about it since I think we have done quite well in getting a good name from those who know us, and a more political/drama focused site may cause issues on that front.
I think there is a good opportunity there to take advantage of with making a new site, but I'm unsure if that would be desired/appreciated by you (existing users). I don't see any issues provided that people are able to treat the two differently and abide by their distinct rules.
busyness and activity
Every now and then we get the odd comment about the activity on the site. Of course as the janny I need to be aware of the level of activity, moderation requirements and just generally, my interests align with growing the site.
I am appreciative of any supportive words regarding our community size. I know most of us are lurkers at heart, which is good for interest but not ideal for posting amounts. I do think as the guy who runs the site, I'd prefer 10x less activity if it means the posts are worth reading and are made with some level of passion. Just know that we have a good amount of people who check the site every day or other day and I appreciate it a ton, being a little bit of your interest and routine is very cool.
Enough being nice and soppy.. this is what happens when I phone post lol
