What do you use the most? Do you have a device that you couldn't live without?

For me I have a lot of appreciation for a windows tablet, a core m7 lenovo one. It was my workhorse towards the end of school and uni and was paid for by money my grandmother left for me when she passed. I am hoping to use it now as a writing machine, since it has a lovely display, so the next site update may be written on there! I've put Devuan linux and GNOME on it, although GNOME seems a bit buggier than i'd like..

The other major love of mine has to be my cassette player/radio. It's a simple Sony but it works like a charm (though I did have to replace a belt). I enjoy istening to the radio with it or my tapes and they allow me to disconnect from life and its stresses a bit. I take it with me on walks and I think it will serve me well with that old tablet

Probably my WENKEY bluetooth earbuds. I use them every day for hours and they never let me down in the years I've had them. That's the highest compliment I can give to a piece of tech. Plus they were pretty cheap for something so high quality, only 20€

I used to have a windows tablet years ago (Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 2) and had a bad experience. I remember both Windows and many Linux DE were very buggy with touch interfaces. I remember the popup keyboard often covering the input boxes, other times it got stuck and the keyboard never popped up again until I rebooted, making it impossible to type. Eventually I started using it with only the keyboard attached.

I guess the situation has improved by now.

I've taken to using Sway WM and I'm very happy with it. A simple easy to remember line of code can set my monitor settings, and there's a long list of default hotkeys for window management that just clicks with me. Its very nice to have this amount of control. I'm sure i3 is very similar but I think things are probably smoother graphically on a Wayland compositor such as this.

With physical tech I tend to enjoy good headphones the most. I don't have anything too interesting, just Bose QC2 and HD600

For me, it's the Elecom HUGE. I've been using this mouse daily for about 2 years now, and it's absolutely fantastic. Trackball has a smooth feel to it, build quality is alright, good scroll wheel, all around, it's really comfortable. Also, I use the wireless version, and the battery life has been pretty damn good (I've only had to change the battery 3 times). I really can't see myself ever going back to using a normal mouse as a daily driver.

friffri the on screen keyboard is still a bit of a pain tbh. I have a keyboard plugged in and it still pops up, even though I have it set to not pop up when that keyboard is plugged in...
But it's still not tooooooooo bad

My Desktop PC: an i7 4790k CPU and an MSI Z97 PC Mate Motherboard

Although I am saving up money for a newer PC in the future, it still works great despite its age. I've been using it since 2015, though I have upgraded RAM and GPU and storage over the years, and I'm keeping it as a backup/nostalgia machine even after my new PC is eventually built.

I feel like it can serve you up to 2030 with this configuration. I also have a Z97-based PC which I built somewhere around that time as well, and I really do not plan to update so far. GPU is cheap-ass korean 1060, didn't have no troubles so far.
Though I admit I do not play modern games often... if at all. The most graphical modern game I've played is Unreal Engine 4 Vampyr, and I was able both run and record it nicely.
I feel like with a GPU upgrade I can stay with the same PC all the way up to 2040.

My old PC still works as well, along the way... Though if I had money, I'd built couple more old PCs. I have a list of dream-tier parts which I wish I could get my hands on, like GlacialTech UFO V51 cooler, which I wish I will find one day and build the ultimate Win98/XP machine. And, of course, if I had money, I'd upgraded my current PC along the way as well. As I've said, my current GPU is really cheap, but that was pretty much the hobo's choice... and I still haven't moved anywhere from that tier, unfortunately.

Ross_R My current card is actually an RTX 2070 8GB. I dual-boot Windows 7 & LTSC 2019, and it works well with both but only detects half of the VRAM in Windows 7. Not really a huge problem, I too mostly play older games anyway. But there's a few newer ones like Terminator: Resistance and the new System Shock and I want to eventually be able to run AI models beyond 7B locally. I've pretty much maxxed out what upgrades I can do to this PC, but like I said I'm still keeping it as a backup and a dedicated W7 machine.

I have a tablet with Windows XP on it, but I think the hard drive died and it's a pain-in-the-ass to get out and put a new one in. I will once I feel like tackling another tech project.

Zergface the new System Shock

You wanna say you won't be able to run that with your GPU? 8 GB RAM and NVIDIA GTX 970 4GB are recommended specs for that game.

Ross_R It does run, and so does Terminator: Resistance (actually pretty well, the graphics on that game are pretty well optimized). I was just pointing out some newer games that I've been playing lately.

Ah, I see. Well, I want to try out new System Shock one day as well, that's why I'm asking. Was a bit... scared that my current setup will be able to run it for a moment.
