Hanebado is a sports anime about badminton. I meant to finish it years ago but it skipped my mind. The main characters are the tomboy whose name I forget and Hanesaki who has the ribbon. As in the case with all sports anime there is a heavy theme of talent vs hard work, Hanesaki taking the side of talent, but it's not like she became talented on her own. Her mother was the 10 time reigning national badminton champion of something. She feels abandoned by her mother for leaving overseas, who returns later, to scout more badminton talent and Hanesaki hadn't seriously played badminton in several years for this reason. She reluctantly joins the badminton club after her lifelong friend pushes her into it knowing of her skill where she meets the tomboy. The tomboy's arc isn't too interesting. She was the best player in the club until Hanesaki came along. They play each other at the end in a long awaited rivalry match.
Anyways, it's a very pretty show. I played badminton alot as a youth. If the show wasn't so pretty it'd be a 6/10 so I'm giving it a 7/10 in spite of some of the melodrama which plagues all female-centered anime. A man sees this conflict and thinks, "can't you guys just talk this out?" #WomanMoment
