I've given up social media near entirely. I keep accounts still but it's only to read old stuff I wrote (it functioned originally a lot like a commonplace book, a lot of nice ideas I kept in there). I only used Twitter and Instagram and now I use neither. I only use WhatsApp to keep in contact with family which I rarely use. I also use Discord but I don't join servers, I only use it for talking to internet friends.
Social media is more just a dumping ground for random thoughts, stuff that would better be held confidentially or with a small group of friends who you could trust. You start to feel as if you lose your personhood when you share the most mundane things about your existence. It's alienating.
Another issue is politics. Because controversy naturally brings attention, you more than anything first get the opinions of the most radical and idiotic people on either sides of the political spectrum. By their own nature, political internet cliques on Twitter turn into echo chambers. Any tweet from the other side that shows up is always because it is controversial and invited people on your side to comment in response. I hope I make sense.
Don't get me started on 'discourse', a circus of strawmen, motte-and-baileys, false equivocations, presupposed guilt, mental gymnastics and pretty the entire toolbox of fallacies to make your opposition look evil and idiotic and your own look enlightened. All good will on either side is thrown out. Anyone who disagrees is less than human. This isn't isolated to social media either, you can find this same old thing on forums and imageboards.
I posted about this on my own thread I made but I wanted to rewrite it because I don't think I had my thoughts together that time.
One was Doomworld, a site I've been lurking for over 10 years now, and how they shit themselves and cried at John Carmack going to some "anti-woke" sci-fi convention with seemingly no difference nor discussion.

A gentleman posted this on the Cutting Room Floor forums, summing up my thoughts quite well (for those not in the know, the CRF is a place aggregating and archiving hidden and scrapped stuff from old games.)

The Internet at large has become a nightmare, social media and its culture of self-reverence having leeched into every corner of it. I thank God this corner of comfiness exists.
I'm not some "enlightened" centrist either; I'm very much on the right. It just pisses me off how dehumanizing political and religious discussion is.
