Anyone here play classic doom? It's the only game I always come back too. My favorite wad is either scythe 2 or Jap Community Project.

I remember playing the xbox 360 doom 2 port co-op with my dad. we werent very good really (he hadnt played in over a decade) but it was nice and is a good memory.

These days I tend to play brutal doom, i know its a bit excessive but its got a nice crunch that makes it fun to run around on a couple times a year

Gigachad 1994, Christmas. New Jersey, Clifton. Richfield Village apartments, Addison Place. Two small immigrant families, dad and mom, 1 childrens each. The first "real" New Years after the war-relocation years. On the PC computer, Doom 2 comes up. Alright maybe it was 1995, and we had PCs already. but still
classic night, because new years was the only night we were allowed to stay up late (all night actually), so it was a video game night for like at least 7, 8 years after that. Heavy hitter shit. A legend was born, I would go on to be an above-average FPS player for the rest of my life, excelling later at kill confirmed adn domination pub stomping on cod
Edit: duke n ukem would come next year (1996?) and level making , and stomping friends on 14.4k
Edit: then in 2022, summer, i got on doom some fps new version, idk the name it was on game pass.....shit was sick

Yep. Every couple of months, I'll get the itch and run through it.

Normally just some vanilla plus stuff, simple weapon changes, but I like a lot of the weirder stuff too, like the one that turns you into a car robot girl

damas I've got brutal doom on my launcher. It's cool but I think it makes the game too hard. I've been blasting these same guys for 25+ years. You can't make the monsters look the same and do new things. I can't handle it. That said I do really enjoy what it adds when I'm not getting my shit pushed in.

d100 Balkans war? Doom brings back fond memories like that for me too. When I was really little my dad would move and I would shoot. I remember getting sick in kindergarten and staying gone playing with him all day and throwing up violently in between.

I fondly remember the times I played Brutal Doom modpacks with various maps. Very fun mod.

DOOM is one of those rare franchises where there really isn't a bad mainline game whatsoever. You might have people say 3 was a mediocre game, but it's still fairly liked by most people and has it's own following. Of course with that being said:
2>1>Eternal>64>2016>3

MeathShot I haven't played Eternal or 2016 yet (and I really want to). Playing Doom 3 on the Xbox were some very comfy memories for me.

yukarihinata doom 1 and 2 were on Xbox live arcade. Thats was 360. Not sure if that carried over to gen 1 xbox. Mine never went online. Doom 3 on Xbox was the perfect way to play it. It didn't need the twitch reflexes. I'd say I'd like to see another take on the horror genre but I'm a pussy and will hate every minute of it. Oddly enough classic doom is like the one game that cam scare the absolute shit out of me. Modern games don't get me half as bad as an atmospheric doom 2 wad. The anxiety will just slowly build till I can't take it anymore and I have to stop for a bit.

Gigachad Okay... this is going to date me. The memories of playing Doom 3 on the original Xbox were correct. Neither me nor my friend ever owned a 360. So what about the memories of playing Doom 1 on my couch? That was playing the SNES version many years before... It sucked balls compared to the PC version, but we had so much fun playing through it over a few weekends staying over. Holy shit, it is bringing back memories of a different time just to think about it. Also, I kind of have fondness for the original Doom OST on the SNES chip.

yukarihinata Chiptunes and midis will always be special to me. The original ost was great. Yeah there was metal on there but there were alot of atmospheric tracks too that the new doom just glosses over. It works to its advantage though cause slow tracks would not work with that frantic gameplay.

Ive been playing through Eviternity. Its been fun minus level 19. most of the levels are 15-30 minutes (if youre not very good like me). Level 19 took me 1:46:19 to beat. Its 900ish monster (by the time the pain elementals are done) but there aren't any fights over 25 monsters. Its a death by a thousand papercuts kind of feeling. It was a slog and I hated most of it. It was hard, just long. By the time an hour had passed I was just getting the first key. The rest of it has been quite fun. Just that one map was awful. I just started the Hell chapter. It comes out kicking with better music and good hot start.

You ever look into a room and kinda sigh inside cause you know whats about to happen?

I beat the hell chapter. The last fight took maybe 20-30 tries but its done in rapid succession so it wasnt bad at all. It was just one small arena, some ammo, and 241 assholes.

The heaven level after looks nice.

MeathShot I'm more of a purist. I'll put brightmaps on for most wads and if i'm feeling spunky i'll put smoothdoom on too.

Map 29 was gorgeous

It was a blast to play through. It was challenging without being extreme (Except for the last fight. Fuck that guy) The music is praised and I can see why but I only found about 2 songs to be bangers. The rest were just ok. I highly recommend it. I am by no means a Doom God but I managed to beat it on Ultra-Violence (except for level 32). I also beat a small 4 map wad called Bauhaus. It did this weird thing where enemies killed with the rocket would turn into bushes

It was based on the architecture style and was a bit more puzzley to workout but overall the maps were fun. Good music on 3-4 of the maps. Not sure what i'll play next. Will Probably be Going Down. Do you guys like the screenshots or am I wasting my time with them? Are there any special wads you guys have heard are good?

I'm part of the minority that actually loves Doom 3. I even loved the flashlight mechanics forcing you to choose between it and a gun and I was really surprised when I found out it was near universally panned. I vastly prefer 1 and 2 but I like 3 much better than the newer ones. If you're going to "update" the gameplay I'd rather it to be slow and creepy like 3 than run & gun action only.

My man! The flashlight mechanic was great. Yes it was inconvenient. That was the point. It was also scary as fuck to teenage me when it came out. I'm a pussy at horror games and it D3 was perfectly done. That elevator that opens to the satanic shit on the walls in blood? Fucking beautiful. I have to turn the lights on moment. I did go back and beat it years later on the og Xbox port. What was your favorite demon? I still prefer d3 hell knights to nudoom knights. Swollen hands archvile was stupid though. Best monster ever in almost any game is the TV screen mouth one in the expansion. Did you like the expansion too?

Yeah you got it, the helplessness of having only a flashlight or being in the dark with a gun was what really made the mood of that game.
I'm gonna have to be boring and say it was the imp. I really liked how they've made them scurry around and out of vents. That and how they glow right before throwing a fireball, made for some pretty scary moments when youre walking in the dark and suddenly saw 3 of them charging up in front of you.
I did like the expansion but not as much as the base game, I kinda felt like the artifact took over the gameplay a bit too much. Still fun though, and made me wish there were more games in the 3's universe/continuity.

I really don't mess with brutal doom or crazy weapon mods, but I love wads like Eviternity, Valiant, Ancient Aliens, to name a few. That isn't to say I don't enjoy a shitpost or joke wad when I'm feeling in the mood for it.
